Architecture

This topic provides an overview of the logical architecture of BMC Helix Cloud Cost. 

In BMC Helix Cloud Cost, connectors are components that you can use to collect data from the resources of public cloud providers, such as AWS, Azure, and GCP; and your on-premises environment. Connectors can be set to evaluate data on demand or on a user-defined schedule. You must configure these connectors and run them for collecting data. All communication between Cloud Cost and the cloud providers is secure over HTTPS. 

Amazon Web Services connector

The connector uses the following APIs to collect data from AWS:

• Describe EC2 instances

• Describe Volumes

• Describe DB instances

• Collect EC2 metrics

• Collect EC2 metrics using the CloudWatch Agent

• Cost and usage reports in AWS S3 

Microsoft Azure connector

The connector uses the following APIs to collect data from Azure:

• Azure WD usage

• Azure EA usage

• Subscriptions

• Resources

• Metrics

• Metric definitions

Google Cloud Platform connector

The connector uses the following SDKs and methods to collect data from GCP:

• BigQuery Client SDK

• CreateQueryStream Method

• Storage client SDK
