Managing Resource pools
The following video (3:26) provides information about adding a resource pool in BMC Helix Cloud Cost.
Adding a resource pool
- On the Cloud Cost dashboard, select Configure > Resource Pools.
- Click Create Resource Pool.
The Add Resource Pool page opens. - Enter a unique name and description for the resource pool.
- Define the criteria to assign resources to the resource pool. By default no Accounts, Tags, and Services are associated with the resource pool.
When you select multiple entities, the resources are filtered based on all of them (the AND criteria is applied).- Select resources by account.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Account page.
- Select the accounts from which you want to include the resources.
- Click the
- Select resources by tags.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Tags page.
Select the tags based on which you want to include the resources. Tags are filtered according to the selected accounts.
When you select multiple tags...
Then they are applied on the resources with the...
within the same tag category
OR condition. So if a resource has even one of the tags applied, it will be selected.
from different tag categories
AND condition.
- Click the
- Select resources by services.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Services page.
- Select the services that you want to include to this resource pool. Services are filtered according to the selected accounts.
All resources that are part of selected services will be added to this resource pool.
- Click the
- Select resources by account.
- (Available only if you have configured the Showback settings) If you have configured the cost-bearer tag in the Showback configuration, you can associate the tag values with this resource pool. Based on the values you select, the cost of the shared resource will be calculated. This option is enabled only if you have configured the tags in the Showback configuration.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Tag Values page.
Select the tag values that you want to associate with this resource pool. Tag values are filtered according to the selected tags.

- Save the configuration.
The Resource Pools page displays a quick summary of the total resources in the resource pool and the name of the service providers.
The Dashboard > Resource Pool tab displays information of the newly created resource pools. If you have configured the Showback feature, the cost of the shared resources will be distributed according to the formula defined in the tags.
Editing a resource pool
- On the Cloud Cost dashboard, select Configure
The page displays a list of all the resource pools. > Resource Pools. - Click the name of the resource pool that you want to modify.
The Edit Resource Pool page opens that displays the conditions in the resource pool. - Modify the existing filter criteria or add more resources to the resource pool.
- Add resources by account.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Account page.
- Select the accounts from which you want to include the resources.
- Click the
- Add resources by tags.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Tags page.
Select the tags based on which you want to include the resources. Tags are filtered according to the selected accounts.

Repeat this step if you want to define additional resource conditions.
- Click the
- Add resources by account.
- (Available only if you have configured the Showback settings) If you have configured the cost-bearer tag in the Showback configuration, associate the tag values with this resource pool. Based on the values you select, the cost of the shared resource will be calculated. This option is enabled only if you have configured the tags in the Showback configuration.
- Click the
icon to open the Select Tag Values page.
- Select the tag values that you want to associate with this resource pool.
- Click the
- Click Update.
The resource pool is updated.
Deleting a resource pool
- On the Cloud Cost dashboard, select Configure
The page displays a list of all the resource pools. > Resource Pools. - Select the
icon next to the name of the resource pool that you want to delete.
The resource pool is deleted.
