Budget And Cost Summary notification


The Budget And Cost Summary notification enables you to:

  • Schedule monthly, weekly, or daily generation of budget and cost summary reports for selected resource pools
  • View overall summary of the selected resource pools
  • View the assigned budget, total cost, and savings on a monthly basis for the selected resource pools
  • View the list of top ten resources in a specific resource pool by their incurred cost 
  • View the list of top ten services in a specific resource pool by their incurred cost 

Access the Budget and Cost Summary page

  1. On the Cloud Cost dashboard, select Configureconfigure_icon.png > Notifications
  2. From the Manage Notifications page, click Create Notification.
    The Select Notification Type page is displayed.  
  3. Select the Cost tab. The list of available notifications is displayed.

    If you are licensed to use BMC Helix Cloud Security product, you can see the Security tab on this page. For information about the notifications for BMC Helix Cloud Security, see Managing notifications.

  4. From the list of notifications, select the Budget and Cost Summary notification. 
    The Budget and Cost Summary page is displayed. 

Configure the notification

  1. Enter a unique name for the report. This name is displayed in the subject of the email. 
  2. Select the resource pools that you want to include in the report. 
    You can select up to ten resource pools at a time.
  3. Select a generation schedule for the report. You can generate the report on a DailyWeekly, or Monthly basis. 
    For example, Weekly, to generate this report on a weekly basis.
  4. Select a time to schedule the report to run at a specified time. By default, the timezone of your computer is displayed. 
    Example: Suppose you are configuring the notification on 25 March to generate a report with the following information:

    Frequency

    Not applicable

    5:00 pm

    A report will be generated with the data for the previous day . Example: 24 March 00:00 UTC (included) to 25 March 00:00 UTC (excluded).

    Weekly

    Thursday

    7:00 pm

    A report will be generated with the data of the last 7 days, excluding the current day. Example: 17 March 00:00 UTC (included) to 25 March 00:00 UTC (excluded).

    Monthly

    Day 12

    3:00 pm

    A report will be generated with the data of the last month. In this case, the report will contain data of February month.

  5. In email recipients, enter the recipients of the report:
    • Self: The report is automatically sent to the account (email address) that you have used to login to the BMC Helix Cloud Cost console. 
    • Other: Enter email addresses of the recipients who should automatically receive the report each time it is generated. You can specify multiple email addresses separated by a comma.

Save the notification

A confirmation message about the notification creation is displayed and the newly created notification is displayed on the Manage Notifications page. To trigger the notification immediately, click Run now. A confirmation message about the notification generation is displayed. 

View the report

An email is sent to the specified email address as per the configured schedule. 

The sample email includes the following information, that can be classified into three sections:

  1. A csv file containing information about the resources available in the selected resource pools. This file contains information of about the top ten thousand resources in the resource pools. 
    For example, if you have selected ten resource pools then information about one thousand resources per resource pool is captured in the csv file. 
  2. Cost and Budget Summary
    • Information such as report period, assigned budget amount, total cost, savings, budget overruns, overspenders, underspenders, total number of selected resource pools, and other details are displayed.
    • The highlights section contains information about the number of resources that were added and removed, the number of accounts added and removed, the number of services added and removed, and the number of regions that were added and removed for the selected resource pools. This information is available in the summary section, where the consolidated highlights of all the resource pools are displayed, and at individual resource pool level.
  3. Cost and Usage category contains information such as, total cost, top ten services, highlights, and resource information (Name, Cost, Region, Account, Service name) for each resource pool.
