Configuring Currency settings

Use the Currency tab to view and configure the currency settings that are applicable to all the cost dashboard pages, including the business services and resource pools in your multi-cloud environment.

From the Currency tab in the Configurations page, you can achieve the following goals:

  • Define and manage the currency in which the billing details will be displayed on the Cloud Cost UI
  • If the billing data received from the cloud provider is in a different currency from your existing currency, you can convert the billing data currency to the configured currency
  • Configure custom or automatic conversion rates when converting the currency to the configured currency

As a cloud administrator, you can configure the billing details in multiple currencies, for example, Euro (€), British Pound (£), and so on.

To configure currency

  1. Log on to BMC Helix Cloud Cost.
  2. From the Cloud Cost dashboard, select Configure > Configurations.
  3. From the Currency tab, in the Configure currency section, select the currency from the drop-down box:

    • $- US dollar
    • € - Euro
    • £ - British pound

By default, billing details are displayed in US dollar.
The View configuration history option allows you to view your earlier currency configurations.

When you change the currency, the existing cost is labeled in the new currency, but the converted cost is displayed only after the data is reingested. You must disable the old connector and create new connector to re-ingest cost data for the last 6 months. To re-ingest more than 6 months of data, contact BMC support.

BMC Helix Cloud Cost displays your cost data in the configured currency after the data is reingested. The conversion rate used is displayed in the Currency configuration section. Monthly cost calculation is done by considering the conversion rate of the last day of the month.

To convert currency to the configured currency

You can use the custom or automatic conversion rate to convert any source currency to the configured currency.

  • Custom conversion type: If you want to define the conversion rates for a specific period of time (quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly) for your organization, and do not want to use the dynamically changing conversion rates, you can use this option and type the desired conversion rate.
  • Automatic conversion type: If you want to use the standard and current conversion rates for your organization, you can use this option. The source currency is converted automatically to the configured currency by using the standard European Central Bank exchange rate of the last available day of the month.

If you do not add any conversion rate, BMC Helix Cloud Cost uses the automatic conversion rate.

  1. Select the type of conversion rate:
    • Custom rate
    • Automatic rate
  2. Type the currency code of the source currency that you want to convert.
The View historical data option allows you to view the earlier conversion rates in a graphical format.
  3. (Applicable only if you have selected Custom rate) Type the exchange rate.
  4. Save the configuration.

BMC recommends that you configure the currency before creating the connector to avoid reprocessing of your historical data. Any modifications to the configuration will be effective from the current month after you run the cost connector. You must create a new connector to process historical data.
