Creating a study to rebalance existing virtual hosts
Use the Rebalance Virtual Hosts page to rebalance the guests running on virtual hosts in your environment for optimal performance. Select Rebalance Virtual Hosts after selecting data for your virtualization study to display the Rebalance Virtual Hosts - Select Targets page.
To rebalance existing virtual hosts
You can create new virtual hosts for this study, select one or more existing virtual hosts to rebalance, or both. The virtual hosts are the host servers onto which the guests are placed. Follow the steps given below to select hosts for a new study:
- Select a Study Profile from the Study Profile drop-down list.
- Type the Study Name and Description for the study.
- Click View Exceptions to review the reported exceptions and verify that no important systems have been excluded due to data issues. For more information, see Analysis exceptions in the Virtual Planner.
- Use any of the predefined filters from the Target Filter drop down list or create your own filters to dynamically narrow down and select consolidation candidates. To create a custom computer filter, select Create your own Host filter. For more information, see Creating-computer-filters-for-a-virtualization-study.
- Select the existing virtual hosts you want to rebalance from the Target Virtual hosts table. You can also specify how to handle the existing guests that are currently running on the virtual host, using the options in the Assignment Action for Existing Guests column. To review the guests currently running on the virtual host, click View Guests.
Select the Create New Virtual Host option to create a new virtual host using the physical configuration shown in the table. If some existing hosts are over-utilized, the Rebalancing Study may suggest the addition of new virtual hosts, using the CPU model and configuration specified in this section. You can change the default configuration by clicking Change CPU Model, which displays the Hardware Selector page. For more information, see Changing-target-hardware-in-a-virtualization-study.
- Use the Set Affinity and Advanced buttons to set the study parameters as needed.
- Click Next to view the Rebalance Virtual Hosts - Rebalance Results page.
