Consolidation metrics in a virtualization study
The Consolidation view and Optimizer simulate the allocation of a candidate onto a target. To correctly evaluate the effects of this allocation, the following resource metrics are required:
- CPU-related metrics:
- CPU_NUM
- CPU_MHZ
- CPU_UTIL (if available, CPU_UTILMHZ is preferred; otherwise, it is calculated via CPU_UTIL, CPU_NUM, CPU_MHZ)
- CPU_ENTC_CONS (only for AIX consolidation)
- Memory-related metrics:
- MEM_UTIL
- TOTAL_REAL_MEM
- MEM_GRANTED or MEM_CONSUMED (for VMware consolidation and virtual machines only; obtained from log level 2 in VMware)
- Bandwidth-related metrics:
- NET_BIT_RATE
- NET_BANDWIDTH
- Disk-related metrics:
- DISK_TRANSFER_RATE (optional)
- DISK_MAX_TRANSFER_RATE (optional)
The following resource metrics can be (optionally) specified for compatibility tagging and checks:
- OS_TYPE
- OS_VER
- CPU_MODEL
- HW_MODEL
