Viewing the Volume Report for the data warehouse

The Volume Report page displays values and charts for volumes processed by the BMC Helix Capacity Optimization data warehouse components.

This topic contains the following sections:

To access the report

  1. Navigate to Administration > DATA WAREHOUSE > Status.
  2. In the Volume section, click the Volume Report link.
The Volume Report page is displayed. The following image shows an example of the Volume Report page.

To view the data load capacity used

The Data Load Capacity Used table lists the load capacity and status, as shown in the following example:

Loaded daily (last 30 day average)

1.12million rows

Estimated daily capacity (8 hour period)

10.34million rows

Estimated daily capacity (24 hour period)

31.03million rows

Load status: OK

The following load capacity values are listed:

  • Loaded daily (last 30 day average):  Number of rows in the data flow report that are loaded daily. The value is averaged out for the last 30 days.
  • Estimated daily capacity (8 hour period): Represents the estimated maximum daily throughput sustainable by the deployment, considering a processing time of 8 hours.
  • Estimated daily capacity (24 hour period): Represents the estimated maximum daily throughput sustainable by the deployment, considering a processing time of 24 hours.

The ideal processed volume values should be below the Estimated daily capacity (8-hour period) value. The system works even above the prescribed threshold, but performance is affected.

If the processed volume value reaches the Estimated daily capacity (24-hour period) value, the system does not have enough capacity to meet the volume requirement. In this case, you should investigate the root cause of the volume increase (for example, new ETLs are added) and do a new sizing to improve the system performance.

To view the Data flow report table

The Data flow table lists the

Column

Description

TS

Referring date (timestamp): Current day statistics are updated at regular intervals

Processed Rows

Number of rows processed from stage tables (sum)

Derived Rows

Number of derived rows (sum)

Reduced Rows

Number of rows stored in the D and MDCH tables

Split Rows

Number of rows generated due to a split, having a "TS+duration" that exceeds the hour limit (sum)

Processing Throughput [rows/sec]

Total processing count divided by total processing time (aggregation on all DWH threads)

Thread Processing Throughput [series/sec]

Total number of rows processed, divided by the thread processing time

Processing Time [sec]

Number of seconds spent in processing, with at least one active thread (sum)

Total Read/Write Rows

Number of rows processed by all threads (sum)

Stored Rows Conf

Number of rows stored in the CONF_VARIATION table (sum)

Stored Rows Detail

Number of rows stored in the DH table (sum)

Stored Rows Hour

Number of rows stored in the DETAIL table (sum)

To view the Warehouse Timing Report

To view the Warehouse Timing Report, click the Warehouse Timing Report link located below the Data flow table on the Volume Report page. The Warehouse timing report page opens and displays the Warehouse Timing Report table. The table contains the following information:

Column

Description

ts

Referring timestamp for reported statistics (rolled each hour)

duration

Amount of seconds accumulated (starting from the ts column)

component

Identifier for the data warehouse method/ phase measured

sumvalue

Cumulative amount of milliseconds spent in the specific component

avgvalue

Average milliseconds required for a single execution

maxvalue

Peak time in milliseconds spent in the specific component

minvalue

Minimum time in milliseconds spent in the specific component

countvalue

Number of executions accumulated in the referred time period for the specific component

Click the Data flow report link located at the top of the Warehouse timing report page, to go back to the Volume Report page.
