Setting up and managing domains in your workspace
A domain is a set of systems and business drivers that are logically related to each other. Domains can be used to group together services belonging to the same business division. You can access the domains by navigating to Workspace > All Domains.
Some common examples of domains are:
- Services: Websites, e-commerce sites, billing platforms, ticketing systems
- Groups of resources of the same type: A set of databases, servers, or application servers
You can create special types of domains that group together systems or business drivers by their type rather than by the service they supply. Most domain types are self-explanatory; for example, an Application Servers domain groups application servers together.
BMC Helix Capacity Optimization also provides a special, multi-purpose domain called Generic that covers every possible grouping that you can create.
When adding a system or business driver to a domain, you can select it from a list of entities of other existing applications. The system or business driver that you want to include in your domain does not need to be shared. In this way, you can associate a system or business driver with its service context and other domains.
For a list of all domain types available in BMC Helix Capacity Optimization, see Entity types.
