Correlation


Correlation coefficients are the first set of results obtained by analyzing the associations defined in the business driver map, and by using the metrics measured for the specified time range. The following table illustrates a typical result set:

There is a high positive correlation (greater than 80%) between application server resources and the business drivers. However, there is a low positive correlation between database CPU utilization and page requests (10%), and there is a low negative correlation between database disk utilization and page requests (-10%). Therefore, there is almost no correlation between database resource consumption and the chosen business drivers.

Warning

Note

Low correlation does not necessarily indicate negligible association. On the other hand, a high – positive or negative – does indicate significant association.
