Filters
Filters allow you to limit the data you want to take into account during your analyses. BMC Helix Capacity Optimization offers two different types of filters: time filters and entity filters.
For example, if you know that a specific date or time period holds data associated with an incident or planned intervention, you should filter these periods out of the available metric series using a time filter.
For example, if you only wish to take into account a subset of systems or workloads that hold crucial data for your analysis, you should use an ad-hoc entity filter.
Filters can be:
- Global, that is visible from all domains.
- Local, that is only visible from a specific domain.
Managing filters
To view a list of global filters, expand the All Domains node in the navigation tree, scroll to the bottom and select Filters; to view local filters for a specific domain, expand the node of the selected domain in the navigation tree and then click on Filters, or select Filters from the Using the Tools and Links bar in the domain's detail page.
The Filters table lists all filters available for the domain, allowing you to view, edit, or delete them, and also add new ones.
Example list of available filters
Clicking on the name of a filter will open its detail page, which shows all analyses, models and reports that use the selected filter, and allows you to edit, delete, copy or move the filter using the buttons provided. For entity filters, the detail page also displays the Results table, which lists the entities that the filter is based on - either static or dynamic, i.e. dynamically evaluated by the defined search string. For more information, see Managing-entity-filters.
