Working with tags
Using tags
A tag is a text label associated with a BMC Helix Capacity Optimization object that improves search results and applies an additional level of filtering where needed. Tags are used to indicate a particular feature of the object that distinguishes it from other objects. BMC Helix Capacity Optimization provides a set of useful tags; you can also define custom tags for your specific needs.
Tags are grouped by tag type; for example:
- Environment, for example, PRODUCTION or TEST
- Attention level, for example, BUSINESS_CRITICAL
- Type of service, for example, CRM
- Tier, for example, BACKEND
Tags belonging to the same tag group are displayed by using the same color. Tags can be associated manually or automatically, using tagging rules. It is possible to associate multiple tags with an object. For more information about tag types and tagging rules, see Managing-tags. You can also add tags to the required entities using the Generic - Tag CSV file parser ETL. For more information, see Generic-Tag-CSV-file-parser.
Performing a tag-based search
The BMC Helix Capacity Optimization search engine allows you to search for objects that match the given tags.
For example, you can search for systems with tags "x86" and "VMware" using the search string:
or, to only restrict the search to tags:
For more information, see Searching-for-entities-and-metrics.
Performing tag-based filtering
You can use tags to filter the results of analyses, models, and so on by using entity filters that is tag-based search conditions that are applied as filters.
For example, you can define a filter to identify systems with tags "x86" and "VMware" saving the search as an entity filter. For more information, see Managing-entity-filters.
Viewing, creating, editing, and deleting tags
You can view and edit tags associated with an object from the Using the description box of its detail page.
