Searching for entities and metrics

BMC Helix Capacity Optimization has a built-in search engine that enables you to search for entities and metrics in an easy way.

The search engine can be accessed in two ways:

  • Using the search box at the top right side of your screen.
  • Clicking the Search tab on the Quick-analysis page.

You can conduct the search on all systems, business drivers, domains and works or on all data in BMC Helix Capacity Optimization, regardless of the domain you are performing the search from. For a basic search, type the relevant keywords in the form and click Search. All objects or time series that match all search terms are returned.

If the Administrator has enabled Series search, you can search on metric series in the visible domains. By default, search is conducted on entities and works only.

From the search result page, you can perform a quick analysis on selected time series clicking on the analysis icon.png icon; this will take you to the Quick analysis tab which displays charts and details for the selected time series. From there, you can go back to the search results accessing the Search tab and select more series to add to the analysis. For more information, see Quick-analysis.

To create an entity filter based on this search, click the Save as new entity filter button at the bottom of the search results page. For more information, see Managing-entity-filters.

Note

The search index needs to be rebuilt after installing or upgrading BMC Helix Capacity Optimization. For more information, see Building-a-search-index.

Additional information
  • The BMC Helix Capacity Optimization search engine works using a search index that is continuously updated; if you add a new object such as a new system, it may take a few minutes for it to appear in search results.
  • Analysis are indexed by the search engine when they are executed. If you do not see an analysis in the search results, try running it again.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
