Performing system maintenance tasks


Use the Maintenance page in the Helix Capacity Optimization Console to perform system maintenance tasks, such as installing out-of-the-box views and clearing cache.

To access the Maintenance page, in the Helix Capacity Optimization Console, select Administration >System > Maintenance.

The Additional Packages table lists all the available additional packages such as views, integrations (Sentry and Moviri integrators), and extensions that can be installed on BMC Helix Capacity Optimization.

The table displays the following details:

  • Item: Name of the package.
  • Vendor: Name of the vendor that is providing the package.
  • Execution date (if available): The date on which the package was deployed.
  • Component version: The current version of the package that is available by the vendor.
  • Installed version (if applicable): The version currently deployed in BMC Helix Capacity Optimization.
  • Status: The current status of the package, such as installed, not installed, or ended.

The Maintenance Activities table provides access to tasks that can be useful when managing BMC Helix Capacity Optimization. The table provides information on the tasks, including:

  • The name and description of the task
  • The date when the task was last executed
  • The status of the executed task

You can run a task by clicking run.png at the end of the corresponding row, and view the task execution logs by clicking view_log.png.

Running the domain extractor

The Domain Extractor option extracts data from another instance of BMC Helix Capacity Optimization, making a copy that you can use on your installation, for example, it can be used to move data from a demo environment to a production server.

To run the domain extractor:

  1. Run the domain extractor by clicking run.png in the corresponding row.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Provide the following details:
    1. Domain: Select the domain from which you want to extract data into the file that you want to use for a further upload to another BMC Helix Capacity Optimization instance.
    2. Extraction start time: Specify the extraction start time.
    3. Extraction end time: Specify the extraction end time.
    4. Resolution: Specify whether the data must be summarized hourly, daily, or monthly by selecting HourDay, or Month respectively. You can by selecting Detail if you want to summarize all the data currently available.
  4. Select the appropriate host and click Proceed.
  5. Click view_log.png to view the the deployment log.
    The page displays a list of the previous run of the domain extractors. 
  6. To download the out_app-extractor_*.datpkg  data file to the local downloads directory, click the Download icon.
    The downloaded data can be imported into the database by using the domain extractor importer ETL. For more information, see Generic-Domain-extractor-importer.

Clearing the system cache

BMC Helix Capacity Optimization caches the content of the most frequently used database tables to improve speed and performance. If any database tables were modified by external components through direct database queries, clear the cache to reload information from the database.

To clear the system cache, navigate to the Maintenance Activities tab under Administration > System > Maintenance and click the image2013-7-11 15:55:32.png (clear cache) button.
