Activating or enabling flows

Activating or enabling flows is a part of the designing flows process.

  • Users can activate or deactivate personal flows and initiate personal flows on demand for testing purposes.
  • Tenant administrators can enable a particular catalog flow to make it accessible to end users or disable it to make it admin-only.

Important

A personal flow is always set to active after creation. A catalog flow is always enabled after creation.

To change the status of a flow

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Integration Studio.
  2. Click My Flows.
  3. Select the appropriate flow.
  4. Turn the toggle on or off to switch between Active and Inactive statuses.

Important

Inactive flows do not run. If a flow is already published, activation or deactivation does not impact the published instance.

To initiate a flow on demand

You can initiate a personal or a tenant-level flow manually at any time to check its performance.

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Integration Studio.
  2. Click My Flows.
  3. Next to a flow that you want to initiate, click the Run Flow Now button.

After a flow run is completed, you can use the flow timeline to troubleshoot the issues (if any occurred). For more information, see Troubleshooting-flow-issues.

Common issues with initiating a flow

You cannot initiate a personal flow in the following cases:

  • The flow that you want to initiate is already running.
If you try to initiate such a flow, the following error message is displayed: "Error occurred while starting the flow: Flow already running." Wait until the flow run is completed, and initiate the flow again.
  • The flow that you want to initiate is in the Inactive status.
If you try to initiate such a flow, the following error message is displayed: "Error occurred while starting the flow: Flow is inactive." Change the status of the flow to Active, and initiate the flow again.

    Important

After you click the Run Flow Now button, this button is disabled. You cannot initiate a flow again, until the initial flow run is completed.

To enable or disable end users' access to a catalog flow

  1. Log in to BMC Helix Integration Studio.
  2. Go to Catalog > Flows.
  3. Select or clear the Enable Usage check box to allow or deny access to end users.

If the Requires Approval option is selected, flow usage requires approval from administrators.
