License Utilization Dashboard

Use the License Utilization Dashboard to track and manage the license usage of your BMC Helix products. The dashboard provides the following information to analyze the license usage:

• Statistics of peak usage of each license type
• Percentage of license usage of each product

Perform the following tasks for managing licenses:

• Analyze the license usage summary.
• Filter license data according to license type and SKUs to view and analyze the license usage of specific products and licenses.
• View and analyze the usage trends of a specific license.
• Make informed decisions to optimize resources and costs based on your analysis.
• Export and share license details for offline use.

Before you begin

By default, only administrators can access and use the License Utilization Dashboard. However, they can grant permissions to other users to access this dashboard by performing the following steps:

1. Log in to BMC Helix Portal, and assign the License_Data_Viewer role to users or user groups.
   For more information, see Setting up role-based access control.
2. Assign the view permission to these users or user groups for accessing the License Usage Dashboards folder.

To view the dashboard

1. From the navigation menu, click Dashboards.
2. Search for the License Usage Dashboards folder and select it.
3. Click License Utilization Dashboard.
   
   
    
4. Review the usage summary and hover over a donut chart to view the percentage usage.
   • The Peak Usages section shows the products with high license usage.
   • For each product, the percentage of used and remaining licenses is displayed with the following details:
     • Donut chart showing the distribution of available and total license usage in percentage
     • Percentage usage
     • Count of purchased licenses
     • Count of used licenses
     • Frequency of collecting the license usage data
5. (Optional) To filter license data by product, select a product from the Category list.
6. (Optional) To filter data by license name, select a name from the SKU list.
7. (Optional) Click Tabular View to view the license summary in a table.
   
   
   
   Select a time interval. You can also change the default time zone setting.
   
   

Analyzing the usage of a specific license

To view additional details of a license, click the donut chart of a product license. If you are viewing the tabular view, click the name of a license in the table.

The license details are displayed on the License Utilization Dashboard (Details View).

• The bar chart displays the trend of license usage. The red line indicates a critical threshold (95 percent of the purchased license), and the yellow line indicates a warning threshold (90 percent of the purchased license).
  • Analyze the trend to check whether the license usage is within the threshold limits.
  • Hover over a bar to view the purchased, allocated, and percentage values of license usage.
• The table displays the count of purchased and used licenses.
  • For the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization and BMC Helix Operations Management products:
    The table shows the total count of allocated and used licenses for the production, QA, Dev, and any other environments. To view the allocated and used licenses for the logged-in environment, scroll down to view the environment-specific data:
    
    
     
  • For other BMC Helix products:
    The table shows the license count for the logged-in environment; for example, if you log in to a QA environment, the table shows the allocated and used licenses for the QA environment.

You can track the average monthly license usage trends for the last year. If the license type is daily, you can also check its monthly usage. By analyzing these trends, get insights about the short-term and long-term usage patterns that help you make informed decisions for license management. For example, analyze the monthly data to detect spikes or anomalies in the usage. Analyze the yearly data to predict future license usage trends and requirements.
