Performing operations on an asset

You can use RESTful web services to:

  • Execute a job.
  • Perform an operation on an asset that is based on a custom object, for example, start or stop a VMware virtual machine.

To perform an operation, you construct an HTTP POST request within a client. If the operation takes arguments, you provide them as data in the POST request.

Note

Full details on constructing an HTTP POST request are out of the scope of this document. There are excellent resources available at locations such as http://oreilly.com/ .
