Performing initial product installation

The following sections describe the base set of products that are required to implement the Continuous Compliance for Servers use cases. You do not have to install the products in any specific sequence.

Installing BMC Atrium Core

For any of the continuous compliance solutions (database, network, or server), you must be running version 7.6.04 SP2 or later, including these features:

  • BMC Atrium CMDB
  • Product Catalog
  • BMC Atrium Integration Engine

For instructions about installing the features listed above, see the BMC Atrium Core Installation Guide, available on the PDF product guides page in BMC Atrium Core online documentation.

Installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform components

All of the continuous compliance solutions (database, network, and server) require the BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform components.

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform components provide the configuration distribution peer (CDP) and the tools you need to use to create a grid. Installing the platform components is a prerequisite for installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator content, which includes adapters, modules, and run books.

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform installation program enables you to install and configure the BMC Atrium Orchestrator CDP, BMC Atrium Orchestrator Operator Control Panel, graphing server, and Access Manager (AM) components. The platform installation program installs components in a new web server.

Warning

Note

When installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator for any of the continuous compliance solutions, ensure that you do not have adapters with the same name enabled on multiple peers. For example, do not have an adapter called "File Adapter" on both the CDP and an activity peer (AP) or a lightweight activity peer (LAP).

Before you can install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator content components, install or upgrade to version 7.6.02.02 of the BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform CDP.

Warning

Note

Once installed, the CDP process must be running with Administrator rights.

  • Access Manager and repository
  • Grid Manager (GM)
  • BMC Atrium Orchestrator Operator Control Panel
  • BMC Atrium Orchestrator Development Studio

For instructions about installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator platform and core components, see the Installing topic in the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform version 7.6.02 online documentation.

Prior to installing the platform, verify that you have a BMC Remedy ITSM administrative logon ID. During the solution content installation, this account is used to export the ITSM templates.

Installing BMC Remedy ITSM

Install the appropriate BMC Remedy ITSM products, according to the continuous compliance solution you are implementing.

For installation instructions, see the BMC Remedy IT Service Management Installation Guide.

Installing BMC Server Automation

Review the following requirements prior to installing Continuous Compliance for Server Automation:

  • You must install the NSH component on the same system where you install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator CDP. For instructions, see the topics for installing NSH on Windows or UNIX, available in BMC Server Automation online documentation.
  • After the Network Shell is installed, use the blcred command line utility to cache the BMC Server Automation user. For instructions about using the blcred command line utility, see the BMC Server Automation Network Shell Command Reference, available in the PDF product guides topic of BMC Server Automation online documentation.
  • To launch the BMC Server Automation Console from the BMC Remedy ITSM task ticket, complete the following steps:
    • Install the BMC Server Automation Console on the same system as the BMC Remedy ITSM client.

      Warning

      Note

Launch of the BMC Server Automation Console is not supported from BMC Remedy mid tier.

    • Update the RCP Console configuration group in the BladeLogic ITSM Integration module. See RCP Console configuration group for BladeLogic ITSM Integration for details.
  • To have BMC Atrium CMDB configuration item (CI) relationships created in the task ticket for the target servers, you must:
    • Install and configure BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation (formerly BMC Service Automation Reporting and Analytics for Servers). For installation instructions, see the BMC BladeLogic Decision Support for Server Automation Installation Guide.
    • Install and use BMC Server Automation Integration for Atrium 8.2 or later. Otherwise, the consistency of server naming between BMC Atrium CMDB, BMC Remedy ITSM, and BMC Server Automation must be ensured through other custom processes. For installation instructions, see the BMC BladeLogic Atrium Integration Implementation Guide.

Installing the BMC Atrium Orchestrator content components for Continuous Compliance for Server Automation

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program automates the installation of the adapters, modules, run books, BMC Remedy AR artifacts, and BMC Remedy ITSM templates that are required by the BMC Continuous Compliance for Server Automation solution.

Warning

If you are installing a solution using VLM extensions in a multi-solution environment, contact Customer Support for assistance.

Products and artifacts installed by the content installation program

The following section describes the artifacts that are installed by the BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program. For the BMC Continuous Compliance for Server Automation solution, the BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program installs the components shown in the following table.

Warning

Note

For information about how to use the silent installation to install components, see the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Installation Manual.

Downloading the installation program

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd. If you do not have a current license for the product, or if you cannot download the product and require a kit, contact a BMC sales representative by calling 800 793 4262.

Warning

Note

The secure BMC customer support website requires that you enter the username and password you received when you purchased the product.

The content installation program installs BMC Atrium Orchestrator content in Windows, Red Hat Linux, or Sun Solaris environments. When downloading the content installation files, verify that you download the right installation program for your environment.

Running the installation program

After you download the BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation file, follow the installation instructions specific to your operating system platform.

Warning

Note

Before you install the solution content:

  • Check the Customer Support website for updated information about this version. Flashes, technical bulletins, and resolutions on the site contain details about any fixes that were issued for this version after its release.
  • You must have installed version 7.6.01 or later of Access Manager and the repository, and both applications must be running.
For information about upgrading from version 7.5. x, see the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Installation Manual.
  • The computer from which you run the installation program must have network access to the repository computer.

The BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program installs all of the dependent adapters and modules. It also verifies that you have the correct versions of BMC Remedy ARS, BMC Remedy ITSM, and BMC Atrium CMDB installed, and prompts you for the ITSM server configuration parameters and ITSM template fields where applicable. The BMC Atrium Orchestrator content installation program presents two installation paths from which you can choose. When installing BMC Atrium Orchestrator content for use with a solution, select the BSM Solutions installation path, which pre-selects the content components required for your solution.

Warning

Note

When running the content installation program, you may see the following during component selection:

  • A pre-selected and grayed-out component indicates that the installation program found an existing version of the adapter or module required for the solution on your system.
  • A pre-selected component that is not grayed-out indicates that the installation program found an existing version of the adapter or module on your system. You can choose not to install that component during the solution installation by clearing the check box, because it is not required for the solution. The content installation program proceeds with the installation, and installs the latest version of the selected components.

The custom installation allows you to install additional content components, but does not install or configure BMC Remedy ITSM artifacts.

    Warning

    Note

A pre-selected component that is not grayed-out indicates that the content installation program located an existing version of the adapter or module on your system. You may choose not to install that component during the solution installation, because it is not required for the solution. The content installation program will proceed with the installation, and will install the latest version of the selected components.
