Operating system updates

Added support for operating systems

Desktop support has been added for the following operating system (for Development Studio, not BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform):

  • Windows 10 Enterprise

For more information about system requirements, see System-hardware-requirements.

Note

For optimal performance, BMC Software recommends that you use a 64-bit operating system. You can configure an LAP to run on 32-bit operating system, but the allocated memory is limited to 1.5GB.

Installation and upgrade program changes

This release includes the following installation and upgrade changes.

Installations

New BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform installations include an embedded version of Remedy Single Sign-On (RSSO). This release also supports use of external RSSO version 9.1.01.001 or higher.

For more information about installing, see Installing.

Upgrades

The following upgrade/migration options are available based on your current BAO Platform version.

  • Upgrades from BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.6.03 (using Access Manager) support the use of embedded or external Remedy Single Sign-On (RSSO) version 9.1.01.001 or higher and involve the migration of local users and roles
  • Upgrades from BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.7.x and 7.8.x versions continue to use of Atrium Single Sign-On.

    Note

This version of BAO does not support migrating information from Atrium Single Sign-On to Remedy Single Sign-On.

For more information about upgrading, see Upgrading.

Platform – Content compatibility

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.9 is certified with BMC Atrium Orchestrator Content 20.16.02.

Warning

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.9 uses Java 8, update 66. If you have created custom adapters, you might need to recompile the adapters with this version of Java. Some adapters might not work if they do not comply with the increased security standards enforced in this version of Java.

If you are upgrading an existing installation to BMC Atrium Orchestrator to BMC Atrium Orchestrator v7.9, you need to upgrade some web services-based adapters due to incompatibilities with Java versions. Content versions 20.16.02 and earlier of the following adapters will not work with Platform versions 7.8.02 and later. Review the list of affected web services-based adapters, install the BMC Atrium Orchestrator Content 20.16.02 Patch 1, and upgrade the following impacted adapters:

  • BMC Atrium CMDB adapter
  • BMC Network Automation adapter
  • CA Service Desk adapter
  • HP Service Manager adapter
  • Web Services adapter

Authentication support

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.9 installations support the following authentication options.

Remedy Single Sign-On (RSSO)

BMC Atrium Orchestrator Platform 7.9 installations include support for embedded or external Remedy Single Sign-On (RSSO) version 9.1.01.001 or higher.

  • Embedded RSSO
    • RSSO is installed on the same server as BAO components.
    • An external database is not required in this environment. It uses the BMC Atrium Orchestrator's internal HSQL database (HSQLDB).
    • This setup uses BMC Atrium Orchestrator's Platform capabilities for high-availability (resulting in easier HA configuration management).
  • External RSSO
    • RSSO is installed on a separate server from BAO components.
    • You have the choice of using HSQLDB or Oracle.
    • High-availability (HA) is enabled through database replication.

Note

The Remedy Single Sign-On version 9.1.01.001 only supports BMC Atrium Orchestrator high availability with an embedded database. A stand-alone RSSO version 9.1.01.001 installation does not support HA with embedded DB.

This BAO/RSSO release supports local user management and LDAP only.

You no longer have to log into a separate authentication page and be redirected to BAO as with past releases. You log directly into Grid Manager, Repository Manager, and the Operator Control Panel and authentication occurs in the background.

Atrium Single Sign-On (ASSO)

Atrium Single Sign-On (ASSO) version 9.0 is supported for existing 7.7.x and 7.8.x upgrades to 7.9.

RESTful API support

New REST API methods are available in the following areas:

  • Add, configure, enable, disable, update, upgrade adapters
  • Upload, activate, deactivate, configure modules

For more information, see REST-API-BAO-calls-reference.

Remedy Single Sign-On API support

Remedy Single Sign-On (RSSO) API methods are added to support local user and role management, including:

  • Create, edit, search, and delete local user
  • Edit local user password
  • Create, edit, search, and delete role
  • Assign user to role and remove user role assignment

 For more information, see REST-API-RSSO-calls-reference.

Software configuration management system support

Support for GitHub is added in this release, allowing you to leverage GitHub as a content repository and versioning tool.

For more information, see Configuring-BMC-Atrium-Orchestrator-Development-Studio-to-use-GitHub.

Development Studio updates

Development Studio support for Windows 10 is added in this release.
