Renaming tenants

Warning

Note

The functionality discussed in this topic applies to version 4.6.03 and later.

This functionality is not supported on a system with two AR System servers (Enterprise-AR and Cloud-AR) and for Provider company.

By default, tenant names cannot be modified in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. Cloud administrators can enable tenant renaming functionality to modify a tenant's name. This functionality modifies the data in all applicable BMC Remedy ITSM forms and, where appropriate, in CI records in BMC Atrium CMDB. You can enable that functionality by modifying the CMA:Tenants form in BMC Remedy AR System.

This topic includes the following sections:

See the following BMC Communities video (3:33) to learn how to rename tenants.

To enable the renaming of tenants

  1. Log in to BMC Remedy Developer Studio as an administrator (for example, Demo).
  2. Open the CMA:Tenants form in Best Practice Customization Mode.
For more information, see Opening-forms in the BMC Remedy Action Request System online documentation.
  3. Search for the button with this name: z3Btn_RenameTenant (304408041).
  4. Create an overlay, and add the field to the view overlay to modify properties of the button.
For more information, see Customizing-applications-using-overlays-and-custom-objects in the BMC Remedy Action Request System online documentation.
  5. Double-click the button.
  6. On the Properties tab, under Display properties, change Visibility to True.
  7. On the Properties tab, under Image properties, select CMA:TenantRenameDisabled-24 for the Disabled Image property.
  8. Save the form and clear mid-tier cache so that the changes will appear in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management.

To rename tenants

  1. Log in to BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management as a cloud administrator.
  2. From the Administration Console, open the Configuration workspace (by selecting the vertical Workspaces menu and selecting Configuration), and select the Maintenance Mode check box under Maintenance.
To avoid issues with SOI provisioning and other operations, you should rename tenants in maintenance mode. By enabling maintenance mode, you are restricting end users from accessing the My Cloud Services console. For more information about the Maintenance Mode check box, see the "Maintenance" section at Setting-general-options-for-BMC-Cloud-Lifecycle-Management.
  3. Click the vertical Workspaces menu and select Tenants.
  4. On the Tenants tab, select the tenant you want to rename.
  5. Click the Rename Tenants button (RenameTenantButton.png).
  6. From the Name field under New Company Name, enter the new name.
  7. Click OK.
A validation message appears with a recommendation not to rename tenants during peak hours.
  8. Click Yes to continue.
  9. Click OK to close the confirmation dialog box.
  10. Resynchronize the index.
    1. Click the vertical Workspaces menu and select Configuration.
    2. On the General tab, click Sync Index.
      For more information, see Configuration-workspace-overview.

To view the status of a tenant rename operation

Open the following forms to view the status of a tenant rename operation. (Hint: When searching on a form, perform the search based on the time stamp.)

  • DLD:SYS:DataWizardProductStatus — Contains a list of forms for different administration types. For tenant renaming, you need only the records with a qualification of Data Administration Type = Company Name.
  • DLD:SYS:DataWizardStatus — Creates a log of the records that are submitted for the tenant rename operation.
  • DLD:SYS:DataWizAudit— Stores the form name and number of records that were updated on the form. For tenant renaming, you need only the records with a qualification of Data Administration Type = Company Name.
  • DLD:Lock — Creates a lock each time a tenant rename operation is submitted so that users are restricted from executing the tenant rename operation more than one at a time.

For more information about these forms, see Overview of the data wizard in the BMC IT Service Management documentation.

To rename tenants when integrating with BMC Remedy ITSM

If your BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management environment is Integrating-with-BMC-Remedy-ITSM through the BMC CLM ITSM Brownfield utility, follow these steps to rename tenants:

  1. Stop the integration temporarily.
  2. Rename the tenants on the BMC Remedy ITSM server.
  3. Complete the first two procedures above ("To enable the renaming of tenants" and "To rename tenants").
  4. Restart the integration with BMC Remedy ITSM.
