Onboarding and offboarding PaaS resources
To perform platform-as-a-service (PaaS) provisioning, you must first onboard the PaaS resources that the cloud uses.
When you onboard an on-premises PaaS resource, such as a database system, the resource is placed in a default PaaS pool until an administrator assigns the PaaS resource to a PaaS resource pool. The default pool's name is <pod_name>_default_pool. There is one default pool for each pod. You can onboard the same PaaS resource to multiple pods.
When you onboard a resource, you must onboard the logical data center (a network container).
This topic describes how to onboard and offboard platform resources. It contains the following sections:
Before you begin
You must have a registered PAAS provider before you can onboard PaaS resources. See Registering-resource-providers.
To onboard platform resources for BMC Database Automation
- From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
- Under Quick Links on the left, click Resources under the PaaS section.
The system displays all resources currently onboarded. - Click Onboard
.
The Onboard Resources dialog box opens. - (Optional) If you want to change the pod to which you are onboarding resources, select an option from Pod.
- Select the Provider, Type, and Sub-type for the PaaS resource you want to onboard.
The Type option lets you choose the type of platform you want to onboard, such as a database system. The Sub-type option lets you define the type further. For example, for database systems, you can currently select Oracle Restart, Oracle Standalone, or Oracle RAC systems.
When you make a selection, the Onboard Platform dialog box displays a list of available resources. - Under Available Resources, select resources in the list at left and move them to the list at right.
- Click Onboard.
The onboarded resources are placed in the pod's default pool and are now available to be added to pools, as described in Creating-PaaS-resource-pools. PaaS resources cannot be used until you add them to a pool.
To onboard platform resources for Cloud Foundry
- From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
- Under Quick Links on the left, click Network Containers.
The system displays all resources currently onboarded. - Click Onboard Logical Data Center
.
The Onboard Logical Data Centers dialog box opens. - In the Provider field, select PublicPaaS.
The Proxy Provider field appears. - Select the Proxy Provider.
The Account field appears. - Select the Account that can access the proxy provider.
The available logical data centers appear in the list on the left. - Under Available Logical Data Centers, select resources in the list at left and move them to the list at right.
- Click Onboard.
Now, you can map the tenants to the logical data center. For more information, see Mapping-tenants-to-network-containers.
To onboard platform resources for Docker
- From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
- Under Quick Links on the left, click Network Containers.
The system displays all resources currently onboarded. - Click Onboard Logical Data Center
.
The Onboard Logical Data Centers dialog box opens.
- In the Provider field, select the name of the public PAAS provider that you set up for Docker.
- In the Proxy Provider field that appears, select the name of the proxy provider that you set up for Docker.
- In the Account field that appears, select the Account that can access the Docker proxy provider.
The available logical data centers appear in the list on the left. - Under Available Logical Data Centers, select resources in the list on the left and move them to the list at right.
- Click Onboard.
Now, you can map the tenants to the logical data center. For more information, see Mapping-tenants-to-network-containers.
Offboarding PaaS resources
When a PaaS resource is no longer needed or available, you can offboard the resource to remove it from the system.
To offboard PaaS resources
- From the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Administration console, click the vertical Workspaces menu on the left side of the window and select Resources.
- Under Quick Links on the left, click one of the resources, for example Resources (under PaaS) or Network Containers.
The system displays all resources currently onboarded. - Select a resource and click Offboard
.
A dialog box prompts you to confirm the deletion.
