Controlling the state of cloud services in the legacy console

From the Service Instances pane of My Cloud Services console, you can control the state (running or stopped) of your approved cloud services.

  • A service that displays a status of Running might contain one or more stopped servers.
  • For services made up of physical servers, the Start, Stop, Shutdown, Suspend, and Resume buttons are dummy actions whose tasks are automatically marked as complete, but no actions occur on the target physical servers.

Note

The Suspend and Resume operations are supported only for VMWare ( from BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 4.6.06.001 onwards) and OpenStack ( from BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 4.6.03 onwards).

To start or stop a cloud service

  1. From the list of services in the My Services tab of the My Cloud Services console, highlight the service that you want to start or stop.
  2. Choose one of these methods to perform the action:
    • Click the Start start_button.jpgor the Stop stop_button.jpg.
    • Click the Operator Action operator_action_button.jpgand select the action (Start or Stop).
    • Right-click the service and choose the action from the pop-up menu.

A prompt bar at the top of the Service Instances pane displays an informational message that shows the action is in progress.

Note

If you stop a running virtual machine (VM) by using VCenter instead of by using the Stop operator action of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, refreshing the service instances list does not refresh the status of the stopped VM.  Although the VM is stopped, the Runtime Status still shows the status as Running. Using the Stop operation action avoids this status inaccuracy.

To shut down a cloud service

The shutdown command performs a "soft shutdown" in which all data is saved before the VMs are powered off.

  1. From the list of services in the My Services tab of the My Cloud Services console, highlight the service that you want shut down.
  2. Choose one of these methods to perform the action:
    • Click the Shutdown shutdown.gifbutton.
    • Click the Operator Action operator_action_button.jpgand select Shutdown.
    • Right-click the service and choose the action from the pop-up menu.

A prompt bar at the top of the Service Instances pane displays an informational message that shows the action is in progress.
