Performing the upgrade
The flowcharts in this topic explains the processes for upgrading products from BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management 2.1.x or 3.x to 4.0. For the steps in the flowcharts that require you to perform an ordered set of tasks, appropriate links are provided in the charts.
For the steps that do not have any links, perform the steps as you did during the 3.x installation, for example, taking backups of your databases.
The following topics are covered in this section:
Before you begin
Before you start the upgrade process, ensure that you review the following details:
- You can perform this process for multiple deployment environments, such as for development, quality assurance, and production.
- You can upgrade all products in the BMC Cloud Lifecycle solution, except for the BMC Capacity Optimizer product, which is not a part of the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management solution.
- Pay attention to the exact process order between 2.1.x and 3.x because there are differences. In 3.x, you upgrade BMC Network Automation in zone 1, but in 2.1.x, you upgrade it in zone 2.
- Before starting the data migration, ensure that all host VMs or physical machines on which you installed the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management products are available.
End-to-end 3.x upgrade process
The following flow chart explains the 3.1x upgrade process in a step-by-step approach. The flow chart includes the BMC Capacity Optimizer product as an example. You can exclude this scenario, in case you have not installed the product in your environment.
End-to-end 2.1.x upgrade process
The following flow chart explains the 2.1x upgrade process in a step-by-step approach. The flow chart includes the BMC Capacity Optimizer product as an example. You can exclude this scenario, in case you have not installed the product in your environment.
