BMC Client Management web console overview
This BMC Client Management video (6 mins 52 secs) describes the web console enhancements in version 20.08.
When you start the BMC Client Management web console, the Welcome page is displayed as follows.
The following table describes the UI elements on the Welcome page.
Feature | Description |

Search | The web console enables you to search for a specific device on the network. For more information, refer to Object search. Click Refresh to update the search index with the new or modified devices.

What's New? | This is an instant direct communication channel which has links to the new versions of the product available for download or any other important messages or alerts. |
Frequently Selected Devices | This pane displays a list of frequently selected devices. |
Remote Control | This option enables you to remotely control the selected device. For more information on this topic, refer to Remotely-controlling-a-device. |
Preferences | This option enables you to set the web console preferences and launch the Java WebStart package. For more information on this topic, refer to Setting-preferences-and-downloading-the-Java-console. |
On the Welcome page, when you select a device from the list of devices, the device information is displayed as shown in the following image.
This page enables you to perform the following functionalities:
- View the device overview, detailed properties, inventories, and topology: A device can have different roles and functions in the network, and thus a lot of different information is available for it. This information is displayed in the Overview and Detailed Properties tab. For details, refer to Viewing member information from device topology. By using the Inventories tab, you can collect any type of inventory data for the selected device. For details, refer to Device inventory management. You can view the relays between the master and the agent under the Topology tab. It represents the devices according to its logical connections in the form of an explorer tree.
- Assign an operational rule to the device. For more information on this topic, refer to Managing-operational-rules-via-web-console.
- Remotely manage a device. For more information on this topic, see Remotely-controlling-a-device.
- Perform direct actions on the device. For information on direct actions, see Managing-direct-access-to-a-device-via-web-console.
