Integrating with BMC TM ART

BMC Transaction Management Application Response Time (BMC TM ART) monitors the end-user experience by simulating an end user through synthetic (or robotic), script-based transactions. BMC TM ART drills down to the first hop breakdown of transaction response time and supports a broad range of applications and technologies.

The integration of BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring with BMC TM ART enables you to incorporate synthetic monitoring data into the BMC Application Performance Management Console and view all aspects of the performance and reliability of your applications from a single, unified console.

This topic provides the following information:

Before you begin

Ensure that you have set up the following BMC Software products. For more information about the system requirements of each BMC product, see the available documentation for each product.

  • BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring 1.2.02 or later
  • BMC Transaction Management Application Response Time 3.9 or later

To set up a connection with a BMC TM ART Central server

  1. Log on to the BMC Application Performance Management Console as a user with permission to perform configuration (Operator role or above).
  2. Click the System Deployment tab.
  3. On the navigation menu, click TM-ART Integration

Previously defined connections to BMC TM ART Central servers are listed. Each connection is identified by columns that contain the attributes described below. An additional column displays the current status of the connection to the BMC TM ART Central server.

    Success

    Tip

To sort the list based on a specific column, click the relevant column heading. To sort in reverse order, click the column heading again.
For additional status information, hover over the Status column in any specific row. The tooltip presents the time at which the specific connection was last tested or (for a failed connection) additional error details.

    Warning

    Note

If you have logged on to the BMC Application Performance Management Console as a user that has been assigned the Administrator or Security role, the list displays all BMC TM ART Central connections defined by all users. An additional Console User column identifies the user that defined each connection.

  4. Perform one of the following actions:
    • To define a new connection to a BMC TM ART Central server, on the Action menu, click Add Component.
    • To edit a previously defined connection to a BMC TM ART Central server, from the shortcut menu of the specific BMC TM ART Central server connection, select Edit Component.
  5. In the displayed fields, enter or edit the following information required for connecting to BMC TM ART Central:

    Warning

    Note

If you are editing a previously defined connection to a BMC TM ART Central server, you cannot edit the following fields:

    • Central Host Name or IP address
    • Central User Name

The BMC TM ART Central host that you specify must be unique. That is, each user of the BMC Application Performance Management Console can define only one connection to any specific BMC TM ART Central host.

  6. Click Save

The connection that you defined is automatically tested, and the results are displayed in a message on the left. If the connection test was successful, the BMC TM ART Central connection is then added to the list (for a new connection) or modified in the list (if you edited an existing connection).

    Warning

    Note

If the DNS host name that you specify is not recognized and the connection test results in an error, which includes a message that suggests that the probable cause is "Invalid Host Name or IP," consider specifying the target host in the system-level hosts file on the computer that hosts the BMC Application Performance Management Console.

To test configured connections to BMC TM ART Central servers

Perform one of the following actions:

  • To test a connection to a specific BMC TM ART Central server, from the shortcut menu of the specific BMC TM ART Central server connection, select Test Connection.
  • To test the connections to all listed BMC TM ART Central servers, on the Action menu, click Test All Connections.

The connection is tested, and the results are displayed in a message on the left.

To delete a defined BMC TM ART Central connection

  1. On the BMC Application Performance Management Console, click the System Deployment tab.
  2. On the navigation menu, click TM-ART Integration.
  3. From the shortcut menu of the specific BMC TM ART Central server connection, select Delete Component.
  4. Click OK in the confirmation message.
