Viewing and exporting the Server Endpoints license usage report for TrueSight Infrastructure Management Servers
The license usage report displays information about the exact number of licenses used for each monitoring solution managed under Infrastructure Management. This view and report can be used to know the exact license count under each category of the managed components.
The report is refreshed once every 24 hours. By default, the high count refresh time is configured at 1:00 A.M. every day, but this time is user configurable.
Prerequisites
- You must have installed TrueSight Presentation Server and TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server version 10.7 or later.
- You must have configured at least one Infrastructure Management component on the TrueSight console.
- Your role must be Super Admin to access the License Usage report. Either you can be an Out-of-the-box administrator user or create a special administrator and assign the Super Admin role to access the report.
To view the license usage details
The report is available on the TrueSight console under the License > License Usage menu option.
From the TrueSight console, expand License Usage.
By default, the selected Component Type is Infrastructure Management Server.
Currently, only the Infrastructure Management Server is available and therefore, the Component Type does not support additional values in the drop-down.- Click Server Endpoints.
- From the Component Type drop-down, select the appropriate component to view the license information.
By default, the top-most component is selected.
Two tables are displayed as described under License usage report details. - Click the current count link to view the instances and managed assets details.
Click the high count link to view the instances and managed assets details.
Note
For a Group Tree View, the current and high count links are not clickable.
To export the license usage report
You must tune the timeout settings before generating a PDF export for medium and large deployments.
Export as CSV works without an additional timeout settings to be done in all types of deployments.
- From the toolbar section, click and select one of the export types: PDF or CSV.
Wait for the zipped report to be downloaded. Click and open the zipped file to view the generated report.
To configure the high count refresh time
From the custom/conf/ folder, edit the pronet.conf file and add the property pronet.licenseusage.report.daily.hour=<HH>.
- Restart the Infrastructure Management Server by entering the following command:
pw sys start
.
License Usage report details
By default, the component type is set to Infrastructure Management Server. You are required to select a component to view the following report for the TrueSight Infrastructure Manager:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Report Date | Displays the date and time stamp of the current report run. |
Host Name/IP Address | Displays the name of the Infrastructure Management host name or IP address along with the port number. |
Tenant | Displays the tenant name. |
OS Version | Displays the operating system details. |
Component Version | Displays the component version. For example, 10.7.00. |
License Category | Displays all license categories that are managed under the selected host name. |
Unit | Displays the unit of measurement: Server endpoint or Instance. |
Current Count | Displays the number of licenses used for each category on the date of report generation with a clickable link. Click the link to view the instances and managed assets details. Because only one Group Tree View is possible for a component, the count is not a clickable link for that category. |
High Count | Displays the highest number of licenses used for each category with a clickable link. Click the link to view the instances and managed assets details. For example, this count could be displayed as 100, while the current count as on the report date could be just 50. It indicates, at least once in the life cycle the highest count of licenses against a particular category has reached up to 100 |
High Count Date | Displays the date on which the High Count was reached. |
The following license categories are available for Infrastructure Monitor component:
Limitation
The host name cannot be displayed for solutions with no Instance to Devices data.

Impact Management | Counts the server endpoints when the following criteria are met:
| ||
Event Management | Counts the servers where the host ID is provided in the event. In most cases, this does not count any third-party event management servers. The devices mentioned in the mc_host slot of all the events present in THIRD_PARTY_EVENTS table are counted. Events from the network devices are not considered. Events of the following classes are ignored:
Note the following information:
| ||
Simple Network Management Protocol | Counts the number of unique SNMP devices monitored by the PATROL for Light Weight Protocols. | ||
Unique Servers | Counts the number of unique server instances within the following license categories (described in this table):

Instances and managed assets details
You can view additional details about instances and managed assets by clicking on the Current Count and High Count links. This page displays the details of the instances or managed assets that were counted in the license usage report.
The table shows the managed asset host name (Server Endpoint), relevant data to the license category, and IP address, as shown in the following images:
Notes
- The Server Endpoint list is a de-duplicated list. That is, multiple host names with the same IP address or hosts with alias names are counted only once. For example, a host "abc.example.com" having an IP address 192.1.1.1 and a host "abc" having an IP address 192.1.1.1 are considered as a single entry.
- Hosts with the same name but with different IP addresses are considered as different entries. For example, a host "abc.example.com" having an IP address 192.1.1.1 and a host "abc.example.com" having an IP address 192.2.1.1 are considered as two different entries.
- When a host name does not contain an IP address or if the IP address is masked due to security reasons, the information is displayed with a blank IP address field.
Troubleshooting export to PDF
While generating a PDF export for medium or large deployments, there could be some delay before the output is generated. You must tune the timeout settings to accommodate this delay to avoid the system timeout before generating a PDF output. After resetting the timeout parameter, you must restart the httpd process.
Run pw process restart httpd
to restart.
Use the following table to perform the settings:
Apache tuning parameters for License Usage report
Parameter name | File name | Description | Recommended value (in seconds) |
---|---|---|---|
Timeout | installedDirectory\pw\apache\conf\httpd.conf | The number of seconds before send and receive requests time out. The default is 300 seconds. | Small: 300 |

Comments
Technical support often gets questions on License usage report like
1- Which count is considered for License cost calculation? Can you provide note to contact account manager for cost related question
2- Significant difference in count that is expected and listed count, we need to add more details or Real time queries on DB to find/validate count as and when required.
3- Sentry related count – ‘Sentry Monitoring Studio’ section don’t provide any useful details on calculation mechanism
As per my discussions with Mahesh Darekar, Closing this comment. He will raise this with Vijay and Parag after the ongoing conversations with Mathachan.
Is there a way to reset the high count observed date? to say observed in the particular calendar year or in the last 2 years etc.,?
Can we schedule this license usage report to send over email on last date of every month.
