Using filtering options in the TrueSight console


You can filter and classify the TrueSight Cloud Cost Control data that is displayed on the pages of the TrueSight console as per your requirement, with the help of different types of filters.

Depending on the filters that are available on the page, you can filter the data. Not all filters are available on all the pages.

The following table lists the available filter types.

Filter type

Description 

Global filters : Apply to all the TrueSight Cloud Cost Control pages.

Cloud provider filter

Filter data based on specific providers. The filter is applied to all the pages.

Month filter

Filter data based on a specific month. The filter is applied to all the pages.

Page filters : Apply only to the page where the filter is set.

Chart filter

Filter a specific chart on a page based on specific labels.

Domain filter

Filter data based on specific domains. By default, no domain is selected.

Cost pool filter

Filter data based on specific cost pools. By default, no cost pool is selected.

Tag filter

Filter data based on specific tags. For example, you can display systems with the tags "x86" and "VMware" only. By default, no tag is selected.

Quick table filter

Filter the table content on specific values of some columns.

 

The filter that you apply to a page is preserved during the active logon session. After you re-log on, the pages display the default filters.

You can bookmark the page with the applied filter in your browser.

Using global filters

Global filters:

1. Cloud Provider quick filter: Click a cloud provider button to show or hide the provider's data on the page.

2. Monthly filter: Click the monthly filter to select a specific month for which you want to view the data.

info.pngInfo: By default, the page displays data for the current month and for all available cloud providers. The options that you select in the global filters (Cloud Provider quick filter, Monthly filter) apply to all the page elements (table and charts).

Using page filters

To use Chart filter:

Click the label in the legend of a chart to hide or display its data. For example:

Chart filter: Click the provider name in the legend of a chart to hide or display its cost data.

To use Domain, Cost pool, or Tag filters:

  1. On the page where the filter is available, click the action menu action_menu.png next to the filter and click Select <filter name> .
  2. Select the elements.
    If there are sub-elements under a parent element, you can expand the parent element to display them. 
    If the list is long, you can also type a string in the Search field and click Search. A list of names containing the search string is displayed and you can select the element you require.
  3. Click Apply.
    The page displays details of the selected elements only. The selected names are displayed next to the filter.

    To clear the filter, click the filter action menu action_menu.png and select Clear <filter name>.

To use Quick table filter:
Values of some columns in a table are clickable and enable you to filter the table content on that value. Only columns with text values are used in the quick filter.

a. Move your mouse over the column value that you want to filter the table data on.

b. If you see the log filter.png Filter icon next to the value, click the value. Else, the column value cannot be used as a quick filter. The table displays the data based on the applied filter.


Example 

Determine the cost of a cloud service (On-premises VMware virtual machines) that is using instances of a specific instance type (medium).
