Defining asset types

You can classify the assets in your environment by defining a type.  The Asset Types module enables you to create a hierarchy of asset types for your organization.

To define asset types

  1. On the header bar, expand the hamburger menu and select Configuration.
  2. Click Asset Management and select Asset Types.
Track-It! displays the Asset Types module controls and the list of defined asset types.
  3. Click New.

The New Asset Type dialog is displayed.

  4. In the Asset Type field, enter a name for the new asset type you want to define.
  5. (Optional) In the Parent field, select from the list of defined asset types if you want the new asset type to be classified under an existing asset type.

    Tip

When defining your asset types into a hierarchy, you should first define general asset types, and then define the asset types that can be classified under them.

  6. Click Save.
Track-It! saves the new asset type and returns to the list of Asset Types.
