Applying models while importing CIs and assets
To ensure data consistency and standardization, you can also apply models while importing CIs and assets from external data sources. CIs and assets can be imported by using the Salesforce Data Loader, Pentaho packages that are provided by BMC Remedyforce, or custom Pentaho packages.
Because the Model
Name
attribute is of the Lookup data type, you cannot directly import data into this attribute. Instead, you must map the external data source field that contains the model information (model name or part number) to the Model
attribute (data type: Text) in the Base Element
object. However, you do not have to display the Model
attribute in the Instance Editor.
While importing CIs and assets from other data sources, the system checks if the Model
attribute (data type: Text) value of an imported record matches the Model Name field in all existing model records. If no match is found, the system checks for a matching value in the Part Number field. Based on whether a matching value is found or not, one of the following actions is performed:
Scenario | Action performed |
---|---|
Matching model is found in the Model object. | The existing model is populated in the Note: Before importing CIs and assets, BMC recommends that you create the appropriate model records. |
Matching model is not found in the Model object. | No value is populated in the If models are not applied while importing CIs and assets, you can generate models based on unique values in the |
The following figure outlines the end-to-end process for applying models while importing CIs and assets from external data sources.
