Configuring Self Service branding

You can customize Self Service by configuring your company's logo and color scheme. If you provide services to several accounts, you can configure and assign multiple branding themes to differentiate the experience for the users of each account.

The following topics are provided:

Overview of Self Service branding

BMC Remedyforce provides out-of-the-box themes that you can assign to one or more accounts. If required, you can apply an out-of-the-box theme, replace the default images with your company logo, and specify your company URL. To meet the branding requirements of your company or the different accounts that you support, you can also create custom themes based on existing themes.

For each theme, you can configure multiple UI elements such as the banner, tiles, broadcast ticker bar, and active foreground tab. When creating a custom theme, you can use the legend to understand the location of the different UI elements in Self Service.

You can create an unlimited number of custom themes for Self Service. However, the out-of-the-box or custom themes that you assign to an account are displayed only after users log on to Self Service. The default theme is assigned to the Self Service login page for all users. If you do not assign a theme to an account, or the users do not belong to an account, the default theme is also displayed to the users after they log on to Self Service.

The following table describes a few scenarios in which you might want to create a custom theme.

Goal

Recommended action

Use an out-of-the-box color scheme for two accounts, but assign different images and company URL for each account

Create a new theme based on the out-of-the-box theme, retain the color scheme, and change the images and company URL. You can assign the out-of-the-box theme to one account and the custom theme to the other account.

Make a few changes to the colors in an existing theme, and assign it to all accounts

Create a new theme based on the existing theme, update the colors for specific UI elements, change or retain the default images, and specify the company URL. You can assign this custom theme to all accounts.

Implement specific branding requirements for multiple accounts that you support

Create multiple custom themes and modify the color scheme, default images, and company URL for each. You can assign each custom theme to the appropriate account.

To create a custom theme

To meet the branding requirements of your company or the accounts that you support, you can use custom themes. You can create a custom theme only by copying an existing theme. However, the number of custom themes that you can create for Self Service users is unlimited.

  1. Click the Remedyforce Administration tab.
  2. On the Home page, click the Configure Self Service tile, and from the menu select Branding.
  3. From the User Interface Theme list, select Create New Theme.
  4. In the new window that opens, perform the following actions:

    2. In Enter the Theme Name, specify a unique name for the custom theme.

    3. To create the custom theme, click Save Theme.
  5. In the new browser tab that opens, define the colors for the various elements in the Self Service UI. The default colors of the UI elements are the same as the colors in the existing theme from which you copied the custom theme.

    Note

The default Hex color code of the Bottom Gradient Color (Active Foreground Tab and Inactive Background Tabs ) and Top Gradient Color (Tiles ) UI elements is #FFFFFF (White) and cannot be changed.

    1. From the User Interface Elements list, select the element whose color you want to change.
    2. In the Element Color area, click the text box and select the appropriate color from the picklist.
If you know the Hex color code for the selected UI element, you can also enter that code in the text box.

    4. To save your changes to the colors in the custom theme, click  and then OK

      Tip

When creating a custom theme, you can use the legend to understand the location of the different UI elements in Self Service. The numbers next to the element in the User Interface Elements list correspond to the numbers displayed in the legend.

Configuring images for a theme

You can edit an out-of-the-box or custom theme and select images that enable you to brand your Self Service. You can also replace the images that appear on the Login page to customize its look and feel for your Self Service users. When users click the Login Page: Company Logo or Banner: Application Title image, they are redirected to the website that you have configured.

You can change the following images in Self Service:

  • Login Page: Application Title -- This image appears in the upper-left section of the Login page.
  • Login Page: Company Logo -- This image appears in the upper-right section of the Login page.
  • Login Page: Brand Background -- This image appears in the middle section of the Login page, next to the fields that allow a Self Service client to enter their logon credentials.
  • Banner: Application Title -- This image appears in the upper-left section of the Self Service home page. You can replace this image with your company's logo to customize Self Service for your users.
