Verification of MainView Logger data sets

MainView Logger is a stand-alone logging facility that provides any BMC product or MainView Infrastructure a way to log important messages or events in a centralized repository.

Tip

This task is required for all MainView products except MainView FOCAL POINT to which it does not apply.

The MainView Logger agent runs within the BMC Execution Component for z/OS (DBC) subsystem address space. The MainView Logger agent manages the logspace and provides connections that supply MainView Logger functionality.

You can have only one default logger per LPAR and that logspace is considered the primary logspace. This logspace is shared among products and the MainView Infrastructure for logging of messages and events. Some MainView products may require their own logspace due to data requirements; the individual products will define these product specific logspaces.

For more information about MainView Logger, including how to manage the retention of logged messages, see Managing MainView Logger.

See related tasks for procedures to allocate the data sets that are required for the MainView Logger logspaces.

Note

If you are customizing MainView for MQ, you might need to set up product-specific logspaces.
