Leveraging external data

Administrators can leverage external data that is residing outside BMC Helix Innovation Studio. You can map a record editor directly to the external data. This results in the external data appearing in BMC Helix Innovation Studio as local record instances. When you leverage external data, tables in the external data source appear as record definitions in your application. Objects such as, View Components, Processes, Rules, Associations, and Named Lists can be bound to the external data source just like regular record definitions.

Only Action Request System (AR System server) data source type is supported as an external data source. Data tables are not supported as an external data source. The forms in the AR System server are shown as tables and the fields in the forms are shown as table columns. These table columns are mapped to the external RD fields. If you are using AR System data source, BMC Helix Innovation Studio does not support FTS for external records.

Process of leveraging external data

To leverage external data, perform the following steps:

1.Configure the data sourceConfiguring a data source
2.Create an external record definitionCreating external record definitions
3.Map the data source alias to an appropriate data source configurationMapping the data source alias to an appropriate data source configuration
