Enabling logs for performance issues

A good first step to investigate performance issues is to enable AR System logs to capture more details about the individual operations that are slow. This topic describes steps to enable logs that are useful for further investigation.

Warning

The logs grow rapidly in size when the server is active. Verify you have sufficient space on the hard drive, and leave the logs enabled only during the testing period that captures the performance issue.

Watch the following video to troubleshoot AR System performance issues when logging has not been enabled:

To enable logs for a performance issue

  1. Open the AR System Administration: Server Information form, and click the Log Files tab.
  2. Select the following check boxes to enable logging:
    • API Log
    • SQL Log
    • Escalation Log
    • Filter Log
    • Plug-in Log
  3. Verify that the logs write to a file and not to a form.

    Best practice

Select the Buffer Log Lines and Log Per Thread options to mitigate the performance impact of logging.

  4. Set Maximum Log-File Size to 0.
  5. Click Apply.

To disable logs after capturing a performance issue

  1. Open the AR System Administration: Server Information form, and click the Log Files tab.
  2. Clear the following check boxes to disable the logs:
    • API Log
    • SQL Log
    • Escalation Log
    • Filter Log
    • Plug-in Log
  3. Click Apply.
