Configuring integration with BMC Remedy Smart Reporting

This topics describes the tasks that are required to perform to integrate BMC Remedy Smart Reporting with BMC HR Case Management. It also includes steps that are necessary to perform to configure Smart Reporting to be used by BMC HR Case Management users.

Before you begin

  • Install BMC Remedy Smart Reporting as part of your BMC Remedy AR System installation.
  • Install BMC HR Case Management.

To configure BMC Smart Reporting to be used by BMC HR Case Management

Note

Customer onboarding, and content import procedures are slightly different for BMC Remedy Smart Reporting 9.1.02, and BMC Remedy Smart Reporting 9.1.01 and earlier versions.

  1. Perform onboarding of your company in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting
  2. Import HR Case Management reports
  3. Configure the BMC Remedy Mid Tier
  4. Verify successful integration with BMC Remedy Smart Reporting
  5. Modify the default permissions for some of BMC HR Case Management users
  6. Enable cross-launch functionality
  7. Modify the date format property

Perform onboarding of your company in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting

You need to perform your company onboarding, so that BMC HR Case Management users can view the BMC HR Case Management reports in BMC Remedy Smart Reporting.

Note

Before importing a single company, ensure that users of this company have unique email addresses.

  1. In a browser window open the onboarding URL:  http://smartReportingServer:port/onboarding/ 

    If another port was not specified during BMC Remedy Action Request System Server installation, the default  is 8181.The first tab Single-Company User On-boarding, opens by default.  

  2. Complete the mandatory fields as described in the configuration parameters table.
  3. Cick Next. 
  4. In the Customer On-boarding window that appears, click Start. 
    The onboarding process starts, and displays a status screen when onboarding is complete.

  1. In a browser window open the onboarding URL: http://smartReportingServer:port/AdminConsole/ 

    If another port was not specified during BMC Remedy Action Request System Server installation, the default  is 8181.

  2. Log into BMC Remedy Smart Reporting Administration Console as a Smart Reporting Administrator.
  3. Click Services > Customer Onboarding.

  4. Click Onboard new customer.
  5. Fill in the mandatory fields as it is described in the configuration parameters table.
    1. Fill out the details on the AR System server details page, and click Next.
    2. Select the onboarding type on the Onboarding type page, and click Next.
    3. Fill out the details on the Customer details page, and click Next.
    4. Review and confirm the submitted details, and click Start onboarding.

      Onboarding status screen is displayed when the onboarding is completed:

The following table explains configuration fields that you need to complete in the Onboarding tool: 

Field nameDescription
Customer Name

Name of the company for which you are onboarding data. It may or may not correspond to the name of the company used for BMC HR Case Management setup.

Note: Values for the company name spelling have the following parameters:

  • Must be in lowercase characters
  • Must contain alpha-numeric characters
  • Can include dots
  • Cannot contain special characters.
BMC Remedy AR System server details

BMC Remedy AR Server Name

Host name of the BMC Remedy AR System server you are onboarding.

BMC Remedy AR Server Port

Port number defined for the BMC Remedy AR System server. Enter "0" if the Port Mapper is set up on your BMC Remedy AR System Server.

BMC Remedy AR Server Administrator Username

and

BMC Remedy AR Server Administrator Password

User name and password of the BMC Remedy AR System server administrator, which can be any user defined as an administrator in the BMC Remedy AR System server. Enter the password and press TAB to view the AR Groups list.
User Creation Filter Criteria
AR Groups

List of the criteria to filter, and onboard only specific user groups.

Note:

Select only the Case_User group from the list of available groups.

The onboarding utility displays the list of AR Groups only after it authenticates and connects to the BMC Remedy AR System server. You must enter the correct AR System server details.

Warning:

Do not select any other user!

Smart Reporting Details

BMC Remedy Smart Reporting Administrator Username

and 

BMC Remedy Smart Reporting Administrator Password

User name and password of the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting super administrator.

Assign an existing BMC Remedy AR Server user as the Reporting Administrator

Login name of the BMC HR Case Management user who is assigned to be the Reporting Administrator.

Note:

Give this user the role of Standard Administrator (belonging to the Case_Admin group) or Standard Master (belonging to the Case_Master group).

Import HR Case Management reports 

After you specify the information on the On-boarding tab, you can specify reports on the Import Content tab. Alternatively, you can import reports later by entering the on-boarding URL.

  1. Navigate to the Import Content tab.
  2. On the  Import Content  page, enter the following BMC Remedy AR System Server details:

    Field nameDescription
    BMC Remedy AR Server NameHost name of the BMC Remedy AR System Server you are onboarding; for example, ars-srv.
    BMC Remedy AR Server PortPort number defined for the BMC Remedy AR System Server. Enter "0" if the Port Mapper is set up on your BMC Remedy AR System Server.
    BMC Remedy AR Server Administrator Username
    and BMC Remedy AR Server Administrator Password
    User name and password of the BMC Remedy AR System Server administrator, which can be any user defined as an administrator in the BMC Remedy AR System Server.
  3. Click  Next .
  4. (Optional) Click  Check Progress  to view the content import status of each application.

    While the process is still running, you can view the content import status for a particular application of a specific client organization in the SmartReporting_ClientOrg_Content_Info form. The following field values suggest that the content import process has been completed for the application and the client organization:

    • The Content Type field has the value UpgradeContent.
    • The Content Version field has the latest application version.
  5. When the content import is complete, check the results; for any failures, refer to the  smartreporting.log  file, available at <install_directory>/SmartReporting/appsserver/logs/smartreporting.log . You can fix the issues and restart the import content procedure for the failed application.

After you onboard your company, you can import content by performing the following:

  1. Click Import Content on the Onboarding status page, or click Services > Import Content. Select a customer and click Next.
  2. Fill in the AR System server details for the selected customer and click Next.
  3. Select content to import and click Next:
  4. Review and confirm selected content to import and click Start Import.

Configure the BMC Remedy Mid Tier

  1. Open the BMC Remedy Mid Tier Configuration Tool by entering enter a URL with the following format in your browser:
    http://<BMC Remedy AR System Server Name>:<Port>/arsys/shared/config/config.jsp.
     
  2. Click Report Settings.
  3. Enter the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting Information:

    Field nameDescription

    BMC Remedy Smart Reporting Server host name and port number set during BMC Remedy AR System Server setup.

    Note:

    This entry must end with a front slash (/).

    Admin UserBMC Remedy Smart Reporting super administrator as defined during the installation process; the default is siadmin.
    Admin PasswordPassword for the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting super administrator; the default is siadmin.
    Customer nameName of the customer, provided in the onboarding wizard.
  4. Save your changes.

Verify successful integration with BMC Remedy Smart Reporting

  1. Login in to the HR Case Management web console. 
  2. Navigate to Actions >  Reporting Console.
    If the following error appears, review the possible problems.

    If you do not see this error, you are redirected to the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting console.
  3. In the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting console, navigate to  Administration >  Admin Console > Data Sources.
    The Data Sources section should display the AR System connection. If it is unavailable, the onboarding was unsuccessful.
  4. To identify the possible errors, review the installation logs at the following location:
    <install_directory>/SmartReporting/appsserver/logs/smartreporting.log.

Modify the default permissions for BMC Remedy Smart Reporting users

All BMC HR Case Management users by default have permissions to view BMC HR  Management reports.

To change the default permissions for some of BMC HR Case Management users:

  1. Log in to BMC HR Case Management as a user assigned as the Reporting Administrator.
  2. Click the Actions menu, and select  Reporting Console.
  3. Navigate to Administration > Admin Console > Users.
  4. Search for a user and click the expand button.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. In the User Details section, select a user role. For information about user roles, see  BMC Remedy Smart Reporting user roles Open link in BMC IT Service Management online documentation.
  7. Click Save.

Enable cross-launch functionality 

The cross-launch functionality opens case details from some reports. When you click Launch Case from a report in the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting web console, a new tab opens the selected case in the HR Case Management web console. The cross-launch allows you to analyze the results of a report without requiring you to open HR Case and search for a particular case to understand the nature of the information in the report.

  1. Log in to BMC HR Case Management as a user who is assigned the role of Reporting Administrator (one of the users of HR Case Management).

  2. Select Actions > Reporting Console.
  3. On the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting console, navigate to Administration > Configuration.
  4. Select System > Custom Parameters.
  5. In the Custom Parameters section, enter values for the following keys:
    • MIDTIER—Value in the format <host of Mid Tier server>:<port of Mid Tier server>.
    • AR—Value in the format <alias AR sever>.
  6. Click Save.

Modify the date format property

  1. In the BMC Remedy Smart Reporting console, navigate to Administration > Admin Console > Data Sources.
    AR System connection appears.

  2. Click AR System connection to display its details.
  3. Scroll to view the Connection section, and choose to modify the Custom Parameters value.

  4. Add DateFormat=yyyy-MM-dd after the last parameter, separated by semicolon. 

  5. Click Save.
