Migrating event policies between tenants

As an administrator, export and import event policies to migrate them between tenants in BMC Helix Operations Management . This feature enables you to export and import all event policy types.

Scenario

Sarah is an administrator at Apex Global. Her company wants to migrate event policies from a test environment to a production environment in BMC Helix Operations Management . She can achieve this goal by exporting event policies from a test tenant and importing them into a production tenant in BMC Helix Operations Management .

The event policies are exported and imported in the JSON file format. You can import event policies with a file size of up to 4 MB.

Before you begin

Make sure that the event class definitions in the source (for example, test) environment match the event class definitions in the target (for example, production) environment.

For more information about the event class definition, see Event base event class.

Example: Import and export event policies

The following example helps you understand how you can import and export an event policy:

Scenario

Sarah, an administrator at Apex Global, has been migrating event policies from a test environment to a production environment in BMC Helix Operations Management . However, she cannot migrate dynamic enrichment policies (DEP) and has to create new DEP policies in the production environment. Sarah needs a solution so that she doesn't have to create DEP policies and data tables manually. Sarah can now use the policy export-import feature on the Event Policies page to migrate DEP policies and the associated data table between tenants in BMC Helix Operations Management , saving time on manual policy creation.

To export an event policy

  1. Select Configuration > Event Policies.
  2. Do one of the following actions:
    • Select the policy and click Export.
You can export a maximum of up to five event policies at a time.
    • From the Actions menu of a policy, select Export. The policy is exported as a JSON file.

In the Export policy JSON file window, you can do one of the following actions to set the policy name of the exported policy:

  • Choose to append the default suffix "_Imported_<CurrentTime>" to the policy name. This option is the default.

  • Choose to retain the original policy name.

  • Choose to append a custom suffix to the policy name.

Important

  • We recommend that you do not edit the exported JSON files.
  • When you export dynamic enrichment policies, the associated data table is also exported.
  • The export for event policies happens page-wise.
For example, if you select 2 policies on page 1 and 3 policies on page 2 and click Export on page 2, only 3 policies are exported.

To import an event policy

  1. Select Configuration > Event Policies.
  2. Click Import .
You can import a maximum of up to five event policies at a time.
