Statement of direction: log collection
BMC announces a change in the log collection process.
Important
While every effort is made to provide accurate, forward-looking guidance on product direction to assist you with your buying and planning decisions, BMC cannot guarantee that the intentions stated as follows are final and binding.
Background
To analyze logs, you collect logs in BMC Helix Log Analytics. For this purpose, you create log collection integrations in BMC Helix Developer Tools.
Statement of direction
BMC plans to move log collection integrations from BMC Helix Developer Tools directly to BMC Helix Log Analytics. We started this process in version 23.1.
BMC Helix Log Analytics provides new log collection policy and centralized connector management for log collection. All log collection capabilities from BMC Helix Developer Tools are made available in BMC Helix Log Analytics by using policy-based collection. To collect logs, use BMC Helix Log Analytics collection policies. For more information, see Collecting logs.
In version 23.1.02, the options to download Windows and Linux connectors for log collection have been removed. Also, the options to create integrations to collect logs from files, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Kubernetes have been removed from BMC Helix Developer Tools. To collect logs, use BMC Helix Log Analytics collection policies. For more information, see Collecting logs.
BMC plans to remove any configured log collection integrations present in BMC Helix Developer Tools. We recommend that you migrate the existing log collection integrations to the log collection policies in BMC Helix Log Analytics. For more information, see Migrating log collection integrations from BMC Helix Developer Tools.
Transition period
Three months from the release of version 23.1.02.
