VMware vCenter ETLs

You can use the VMware vCenter ETLs to collect data from the vCenter servers in your VMware environment. The collected data is used for analyzing and optimizing the capacity of your VMware infrastructure.

Use the following VMware vCenter ETLs for data collection:

  • VMware - vCenter Extractor Service: This is a service ETL that runs continuously to collect data from vCenter servers. The collected data includes the metrics for Cloud capacity views and vSphere Virtualization views. The metrics are collected with the default vCenter statistics collection level. BMC recommends to use this ETL for daily data collection. For information about configuring and running the ETL, see VMware vCenter Extractor Service.
  • VMware - vCenter and ESX Server History Extractor: This is a batch ETL that collects the historical data from vCenter and ESX servers. You must increase the statistics collection level for collecting historical data. You can use this ETL for data recovery. For information about configuring and running the ETL, see VMware - vCenter and ESX Server History Extractor.

Additional information

You cannot run the VMware - vCenter Extractor and VMware - vCenter and ESX Server History Extractor simultaneously. To collect historical data from vCenter and ESX servers you first need to configure and run the VMware - vCenter and ESX Server History Extractor. After the historical data is collected, configure and run the VMware - vCenter Extractor, which continuously polls and collects data from vCenter servers.
