Idle Virtual Machines page in the Azure Virtual Machines view
The Idle Virtual Machines page in the Azure Virtual Machines view provides an overview of all idle VMs. The information can help you to reclaim unused resources.
The Idle Virtual Machines table displays the idle VMs based on the criteria that you can configure in the Virtual Machines Settings page, that is, VMs using less than the specified amount of CPU within the specified number of days.
To access this page, in the Views tab, select Capacity > Views > Cloud > Azure > Azure Virtual Machines and click the Idle Virtual Machines tab.
Azure Idle Virtual Machines table
The Idle Virtual Machines table lists the following information for each idle VM. You can sort columns in tables alphabetically, or by size. For more information, see Managing charts and tables in Views.
Idle Virtual Machines table: Description of columns
Column | Description | Statistical Type | Metrics |
---|---|---|---|
Name | Name of the idle VM. Clicking on one of the VMs in this column of the summary view takes you to the VM details view. | Last Value | NAME |
Type | The instance type specifies the required resources to run this VM. | Last Value | REQUESTED_INSTANCE_TYPE |
Idle Days | The number of days this VM was detected to be idle. | Last Value | Computed using CPU_UTIL |
CPU [cores] | Number of virtual CPUs that are configured for the virtual machine. | Last Value | CPU_NUM |
CPU Util [%] | Percentage of total CPU utilized by the selected VM. | 95th percentile | CPU_UTIL |
Memory [GB] | Total physical memory capacity in the selected VM, measured in GB. | Last value | TOTAL_REAL_MEM |
Memory Util[%] | Percentage of real physical memory utilized by the VM. This metric excludes the memory assigned to the file system cache and it is displayed only if the additional monitoring scripts are scheduled to run on the selected VM. | 95th percentile | MEM_UTIL |
I/O Rate [MB/s] | 95th percentile value of the disk input/output rate measured in megabytes per second. | 95th percentile | DISK_TRANSFER_RATE |
Network Rate [Mbit/s] | 95th percentile value of the network input/output rate measured in megabits per second. | 95th Percentile | NET_BIT_RATE |
Detailed information about a VM
After you click on the VM in the Virtual machine column, the details for that VM are displayed in the VM Details page. The VM Details page displays the following information:
Section or Panel | Description |
---|---|
General details section | General details, such as VM name and type are displayed. The type is Virtual Machine - Azure. |
Related Information panel | Clicking the links in the Related Information panel displays the other information related to the selected VM.
|
Summary tab | Displays details for the selected VM in a horizontal summary table, as well as charts. Core metrics for the selected entity are displayed as analysis charts, depending on available data. At the bottom of each chart is a link that takes you to the Data Explorer view for the specific resource type, and displays charts and information for a larger set of metrics. To return to this page, click the arrow icon on the top-right side in the Data Explorer tab. |
