A policy is applied when the Central Monitoring Administration receives a request from the BMC PATROL Agents that match the agent selection properties in the policy. When you update a policy, all the changes are automatically pushed to the BMC PATROL Agents on which the policy was applied.

The high-level steps to create or edit a monitoring policy are listed as follows:

  1. Define general policy details.
  2. Perform one or more of the following actions:

Notes

  • A policy created by a Super Admin impacts all the components, irrespective of the tenant to which it belongs.
  • If a user is deleted or moved from a user group, then policies created by the user are disabled after 30 min. These policies cannot be edited or enabled. As a best practice, share the policies created by a user before deleting or moving the user from the user group. This ensures other users in the same user group have access to the policies.

Tip

Before creating monitoring policies, be sure to import the default monitoring policies, as described in Importing default policies into Central Monitoring Administration.

To view policies

From the navigation pane on the left side of the Central Monitoring Administration window, click Policies > Monitoring > All to see all the monitoring policies that are defined in Central Monitoring Administration. If your system recognizes more than one tenant, you can view lists of policies that are filtered by tenant or global policies that apply to all tenants.

On any policy view, you can perform the following actions:

  • Sort policies by clicking column headings
  • Search for text that appears in any of the columns
  • If your system recognizes more than one tenant, search for policies by tenant
  • Create or edit policies
  • Enable or disable policies
  • Delete policies
