You can edit service schedules by using the Schedules and Timeframes icon of BMC Impact Model Designer. Schedule information is stored in the BMC Atrium CMDB.

If you do not select a schedule for a CI, the CI will have a default schedule of 24 x 7 x 365 (always in schedule).

After creating service schedules, you can assign components to schedules in the Edit Component Properties dialog box as described in Assigning components to service schedules.

The Service Administrators and Service Managers user groups have access to the schedule editor.

The following table contains descriptions of the functions of icons used in the Schedules And Timeframes dialog box:

Delete the selected service schedule or timeframe.

Working with timeframes

Service schedules are built from timeframes that you can create and edit by using the Schedules and Timeframes icon on the toolbar.

The following table provides descriptions of the fields in the Edit Timeframe dialog box:

Timeframe Edit field descriptions

Name

Name of the timeframe.

Description

Description of the timeframe.

Start, End

Time period for the beginning and end of the timeframe. Select Duration from the End list to set the duration of the timeframe. Alternatively, select Time from the End list to set the end period for the timeframe.

Recurrence pattern

Defines the frequency in which the timeframe recurs. If you select a recurrence pattern on the left side, the list on the right side changes according to the selection you made. Besides the Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Yearly timeframe options, you can select individual dates that are part of the timeframe by selecting Date List and choosing dates from the displayed calendar.

Range of recurrence

Defines the start and end range of dates for the recurrence. Instead of choosing an end date, you can also enter the number of occurrences for the timeframe.

To create or edit a timeframe

To create or edit a timeframe, perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Timeframes tab, click the New icon to create a new timeframe or click the Edit icon to edit an existing timeframe.
  3. In the New Timeframe /Edit Timeframe dialog box, enter or modify the appropriate information in the available fields.
  4. Click Save to save the timeframe and make it available for use in the Edit Schedule dialog box.

To copy a timeframe

To copy a timeframe, perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Timeframes tab, select a timeframe to copy.
  3. Click the Copy icon.
  4. In the Copy Timeframe dialog box, modify the fields for the copied timeframe as appropriate. The copied timeframe name is appended with the prefix "Copy of."
  5. Click Save.

To list the service schedules and components that are associated with a timeframe

To list the service schedules and components that are associated with a timeframe, perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Timeframes tab, select a timeframe.
  3. Click the Show Usages icon.

    The Timeframe - Components and Schedule dialog box displays a list of the components and schedules currently associated with the timeframe.
    • To view components associated with the selected timeframe, click the Components tab.
    • To view service schedules containing the selected component, click the Schedules tab.
  4. Click Close.

To delete a timeframe

To delete a timeframe, perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Timeframes tab, select a timeframe to delete and click the Delete icon.

    To view the schedules that use a given timeframe, click Show Usages.
  3. Click Delete in the Delete Confirmation dialog box to confirm the action.

The selected timeframe is deleted.

Working with service schedules

You can create and modify service schedules in BMC Impact Model Designer by using the New Schedule /Edit Schedule dialog box as shown the following figure:

To create or edit a service schedule

To create or edit a service schedule, perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Schedules tab, click the New icon to create a new service schedule or click the Edit icon to edit an existing service schedule.
  3. In the Edit Schedule dialog box, enter or modify the appropriate information in the fields, as shown in the following table.

    Name

    Name of the service schedule to create or edit.

    Usages (button)

    Opens the Schedules: Components assigned to this schedule dialog box that lists the components and component descriptions currently associated with the selected schedule.

    Description

    Description of the service schedule.

    Timeframes in this Schedule

    Information about the timeframes that are a part of the service schedule, and also which timeframes are high-demand, low-demand and which are available. Any time period not part of a service schedule is considered off schedule. High Demand Timeframes, at the left, contains timeframes during which the associated components exist in the service schedule period (as opposed to being off schedule). You can add or remove timeframes from this list by using the arrows between the timeframes. Available Timeframes, at the center, contains timeframes that are available to be added to the high demand or low demand timeframes periods. You can create a new a timeframe to include in the Available Timeframes list by clicking the New icon below the list. You can also edit timeframe in the list by clicking Edit. For information on the creating or editing timeframes, Working with timeframes Low Demand Timeframes, at the right, contains timeframes during which the associated components are treated as off schedule even though the time exists within the high demand period.

  4. Click Save.

To copy a service schedule

To copy a service schedule perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframe dialogbox
  1. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Schedules tab, select a service schedule from the list.
  2. Click the Show Usages icon.

    The Schedules: Components assigned to this schedule dialog box displays a list of the components currently associated with the selected schedule and the description of the component. You can view associated components on the Components tab and associated service schedules on the Schedules tab.
  3. Click Close.

To delete a service schedule

To delete a service schedule perform the following steps:

  1. On the toolbar, click the Schedules and Timeframes icon.
  2. In the Schedules and Timeframes dialog box, on the Schedules tab, select a service schedule to delete and click the Delete icon.

    A Delete Confirmation dialog box is displayed, informing you that after deletion, all components using the deleted schedules will be assigned to the default schedule.
    To view the CIs that are associated with a given service schedule, on the Schedules tab, click Show Usages. See To display the configuration items that are associated with a service schedule.
  3. Click Delete.

After creating service schedules, you can assign components to these schedules.

Assigning components to service schedules

You can assign one or more components to service schedules by using the Schedule and Priority tab in the Edit Component Properties dialog box. For more information about this tab, see To specify attributes for configuration items.
