Preinstallation tasks for Windows environments
Perform the following tasks before launching the Infrastructure Management installation program.
- Clean your temporary directories. Start with the temporary folder in your home folder. Also clean the %Temp%, %Tmp% directories, and C:\WINNT\Temp or C:\Windows\Temp if present. You might not be able to delete all the files, but BMC recommends that you remove any files or directories that begin with TrueSight or Infrastructure Management.
- If Terminal Services is enabled, configure it to save installation log files after the installation is complete; otherwise, the log files will be deleted. For more information, see To configure the required Terminal Server options.
- Enable Windows short path configuration
- Configure your firewall to allow TCP port 7, which is used to communicate with other Infrastructure Management hosts.
To configure the required Terminal Server options
To enable running the installation through a Terminal Services connection or a remote desktop session, configure the Terminal Server options that pertain to temporary folders.
- On the host computer, open the Local Group Policy Editor by selecting Start > Run and typing gpedit.msc.
- Expand the following folder: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Temporary folders.
- Double-click the following options to set each to Enabled:
- Do not delete temp folder upon exit
- Do not use temporary folders per session
- Restart the computer.
