For the passive end-user experience components, BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition provides an SNMP MIB that enables the SNMP manager to get (read-only) management data from the end-user experience component.

Consult the following instructions for information about how to set the parameters that enable access to the managed device information in the MIB. You can enable access for both SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c, and for SNMPv3.

    Before you begin

Before you set the v3 security level, you must provide an SNMP engine ID for the local agent.

To perform this procedure, you must have Operator-level access, or higher.

To configure access to an SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c MIB on a Real User Analyzer or Collector

    1. In the Real User Analyzer or Collector interface, point to Administration > Integration, and click Network management (SNMP).

    2. On the Action menu for the MIB section, select Edit.
    3. In the Community string box, enter the string.
    4. Click Save.
    5. Ensure that the MIB switch for V1/V2 is ON

To configure access to an SNMPv3 MIB on a Real User Analyzer or Collector

    1. In the Real User Analyzer or Collector interface, point to Administration > Integration, click Network management (SNMP).

    2. On the Action menu for the MIB section, select Edit.

    3. In the Security level list, select one of the following options:
      • For an unauthenticated communication with no privacy, select No Authentication or Privacy (noAuthNoPriv), and in the User name box, enter the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
      • For an authenticated communication with no privacy, select Enable Authentication and no Privacy (authNoPriv), and perform the following steps:

        1. In the User name box, enter the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
        2. In the Authentication protocol field, select MD5 or SHA, depending on the hashing algorithm used to encrypt the password.
        3. In the Authentication password box, enter the corresponding password. The password must be alphanumeric and contain at least eight characters.
      • For an authenticated and private connection, select Enable Authentication and Privacy (authPriv), and perform the following steps:

        1. In the User name box, enter the user name for the account that is accessing the MIB.
        2. In the Authentication protocol field, select MD5 or SHA, depending on the hashing algorithm used to encrypt the password.
        3. In the Authentication password box, enter the authentication password. The password must contain at least eight alphanumeric characters.
        4. In the Privacy password box, enter the password to decrypt the request. The password must contain at least eight alphanumeric characters.

          Note

SNMPv3 authPriv supports symmetric encryption through the AES and DES encryption algorithms. However, BMC Real End User Experience Monitoring only supports DES for privacy. To communicate with passive end-user experience components with SNMPv3 authPriv enabled, your SNMP management console account must be configured to use DES for message encryption.

    4. Click Save.

    5. Click ON in the V3 switch to ensure that the MIB switch for V3 is working.
