Viewing the Percentage of Free Memory for Applications

This task describes how to discover the percentage of (logical) free memory available for use by applications on the system rather than the real free memory on the system. It includes the real memory consumed for filesystem buffers and page cache.

To View the Percentage of Free Memory Available for Applications

  1. Access the MEMORY application class to view its parameters.
  2. Open the MEMAppUsablePerc parameter.
This parameter reports the correct value on Solaris systems only when the MEMUsedBufCache parameter reports a value; the kernel module, bunyip, is loaded on the system. Otherwise, this parameter reports the percentage of real free memory on the system.

    Note

The MEMAppUsablePerc parameter is not available on HP-UX and Solaris platforms in the PSL collection mode.

BMC PATROL displays a graph that shows the percentage of free memory for use by applications on the system, over time.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
