BMC Performance Assurance collector is unsupported on Solaris non-global zones. The DCM and Perform collection methods are installed unexpectedly.

BMC Performance Assurance collectorconfigures links in the /usr/adm directory, and it uses the /usr/lib/bmc directory to deploy the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) related shared libraries. The extraction of the libupdate.tar file creates the /bmc directory in the /usr/lib directory. In non-global zones, this directory creation fails because the /usr directory is available only in read-only mode in non-global zones. An error message is also displayed during the installation of BMC Performance Assurance collector in the non-global zone. The error message logged is as follows:

 {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:tar: bmc: Read-only file system}} {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:tar: bmc: Read-only file system}} {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:tar: bmc: Read-only file system}} {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:tar: bmc: Read-only file system}} {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:ERROR: Extraction of /usr/adm/best1_7.3.00/bgs/setup/libupdate.tar failed!}} {{\[08:56:19\] RunExpectTool:ERROR: '/usr/lib/bmc' does not exist!}}

Note

  • The PATROL KM for UNIX installation is supported on the sparse and whole non-global zones. The error does not impact the installation; however, you should deactivate the Perform solution. You can do so by clearing the Perform Agent, Perform ARM Support, and Perform Data Collector check boxes from the Product Selection list, on the Select Products and Components to Install page during the installation of PATROL KM for UNIX on a non-global zone.
  • BMC Performance Assurance collector is unsupported on the AIX 6.1 System WPAR. Inside the AIX 6.1 System workload partition, the PSL mode is selected by default and the collection is done by using pukserver.xpc (for application classes such as PROCESS_PRESENCE and CPU).
  1. b $TARGET is the output of the target script, indicating the system type and OS version.
