Applications for configuring the PowerVM environment

PATROL KM for UNIX uses the following applications to configure the PowerVM environment:

  • IBM_MCCONT: A container KM that hosts instances of all the management consoles. This KM provides all the menu commands and tasks required to configure the management console. The IBM_MCCONT container is represented by PowerVM in the PATROL console.
  • IBM_MC: Contains instances of managed systems that are connected to the management console. The IBM_MC container is represented by host name of the management console in the PATROL console.
  • MG_SYS: An instance of this application class is created for every managed system that is connected to the management console. This acts as a container for Logical Partitions (LPARs) and Shared Processor Pools.
  • LP_CONT: A common container KM that hosts instances of all the Logical Partitions (LPARs) or Shared Processor Pools configured in a managed system.
  • LPAR: An instance of this application class is created for each Logical Partition configured in a managed system.
  • PROCPOOL: An instance of this application class is created for each Shared Processor Pool configured in a managed system.

Note

PATROL KM for UNIX uses HMC (Hardware Management Console) commands to provide CPU utilization data of the Shared Processor Pool. Hence, data collection on the HMC needs to be enabled. If this is not done, the lslparutil command will not provide the CPU utilization data and the PROCPOOLCpuUtil parameter will remain offline. BMC recommends that you set the data collection interval to 1 minute.
