BMC PATROL for Sybase contains knowledge in the form of commands, parameters, and recovery actions. PATROL for Sybase parameters enable you to analyze system performance quickly and easily because they provide a detailed statement of all system activity over time. You can clearly identify peaks, troughs, and trends in the performance of system resources. By enabling you to detect problems, optimize systems, analyze trends, plan capacity, and manage multiple hosts simultaneously, PATROL for Sybase helps you ensure that your computing resources run efficiently 24 hours a day.

Note

PATROL for Sybase does not support cluster and failover capabilities. To get complete compatibility information for BMC PATROL for Sybase, use the BMC Solution and Product Availability and Compatibility Utility on the Product Availability and Compatibility page.

PATROL for Sybase monitors, analyzes, and manages the following Sybase software products:

  • Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE)
  • Replication Server
  • Adaptive Server IQ (IQ Server)
  • SQL AnyWhere

PATROL for Sybase for monitoring Adaptive Server Enterprise

PATROL for Sybase contains the knowledge that PATROL uses to monitor, analyze, and manage the activities of Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE). PATROL for Sybase provides a convenient and logical user interface that you can use to monitor the performance of Sybase ASE.

Using PATROL for Sybase, you can monitor the following features of Sybase ASE:

  • Monitor CPU performance, space metrics, database information, database object and segment information, process information, and device information
  • Monitor the up and down status of the Adaptive Server
  • Monitor the Adaptive Server error log (applicable only for local monitoring)

Important

  • You cannot access and monitor the Adaptive Server error logs when you monitor a remote Adaptive Server.

  • Log monitoring is possible only if you install Log Management KM. That is, for monitoring Adaptive Server error log, you must install Log Management KM locally on your machine.
  • If you are configuring Adaptive Server using Central Monitoring Administration, then you can monitor the error log by enabling the logging option.
  • If you are configuring the Adaptive Server using PATROL Console, then you can configure this option using pconfig variable of Log Management KM.
  • Monitor Adaptive Server on computers not running a PATROL Agent.

PATROL for Sybase for monitoring IQ Server

PATROL for Sybase contains the knowledge that PATROL uses to monitor and manage the Sybase IQ Server activities. PATROL for Sybase provides a user interface for you to monitor the performance of a Sybase IQ system and to administer the various components of an IQ Server environment.

Using PATROL for Sybase, you can monitor the following tasks:

  • Up and down status of the IQ Server
  • Performance-related information of the Sybase IQ Server
  • Database information, database object and segment information, process information, and device information
  • Capacity-related information of the Sybase IQ server

PATROL for Sybase for Replication Server

PATROL for Sybase contains the knowledge that PATROL uses to monitor, analyze, and manage the activities of the Sybase Replication Server.

PATROL for Sybase provides a convenient and logical user interface for you to monitor the performance of a Sybase Replication system and to administer the various components of a Replication Server environment. A Replication system is a logical grouping of Adaptive Server, Replication Servers, Log Transfer Managers (LTMs), and replication agents across many computers on a wide area network.

Using the PATROL for Sybase, you can perform the following tasks:

  • Selectively monitor threads, partitions, and queues
  • Monitor the status of the Replication Server, the LTM, or the replication agent

PATROL for Sybase for SQL AnyWhere

PATROL for Sybase contains the knowledge that PATROL uses to monitor and manage the Sybase SQL AnyWhere activities. Sybase SQL Anywhere lets you rapidly design and power embedded database applications that run remotely on laptops, handhelds, and smartphones.

Using PATROL for Sybase, you can monitor the following tasks:

  • Up and down status of the SQL AnyWhere
  • Performance-related information of the SybaseSQL AnyWhere
  • Database information, database object and segment information, process information, and device information
