Enhancements
Service Pack 2 provides the following enhancements:
New annotation for Threads down under replication availability
A new annotation has been added to the parameters which shows the name of the thread that is down.
New annotation and event as recovery action at ASE status
A new annotation has been added to ASE status to notify the time and data with the DB name that is down with a recommendation to check connectivity. A triggered event with the same information is also added with it.
Downloading the service pack
This section provides the information that you need to download and install the service pack from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website.
To download the installation utility and service pack from the EPD website
Create a directory for the downloaded files.
- Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
- At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
- On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
- If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms that you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
- Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose.
- You can download the installation utility and the product service pack using either of the following methods:
Using Component View
- In the Filter Products field, type BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
- Click Go.
- In the right pane, click BMC PATROL Installation Utility.
- In the Version list, select 10.5.00, and click Go.
In the Products tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

- To download the selected files, click Download (FTP) or Download Manager.
- Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
- Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to resume an interrupted download.
This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files. A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
- Click

- Click Go.
- In the right pane, click BMC PATROL for Sybase.
- In the Version list, select 11.0.20, and click Go.
In the Patches tab, based on the operating system, select the check box next to the files.

- Locate BMC Performance Manager for Databases and expand its entries to show the available version numbers.
- Expand BMC Performance Manager for Databases 4.0.00 to show the available components.
- Expand BMC PATROL Installation Utility 10.5.00 to show the available files.
Select the check box next to the files, based on the appropriate platforms.

Installing the service pack
Before you begin
You must install the service pack on the following computers:
- Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
- Hosts that are running the PATROL Console
Before you install the service pack, complete the following steps:
- Stop the PATROL Agent.
- Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Delete all BMC PATROL for Sybase files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
- Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.
To install the BMC PATROL for Sybase 11.0.20 Service Pack
Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:
- For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_10500.zip.
- For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_10500.tar.
The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
- Extract the service pack files for your operating system as appropriate:
- For Windows, double-click psk_ALL_11020.zip.
- For UNIX, enter psk_ALL_11020.tar.
The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:
Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed.
On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for Sybase - Service Pack 11.0.20.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
