You can configure BMC PATROL MongoDB when you create a policy. A policy is a template that contains the configuration of a PATROL Agent. A policy can be assigned to one or more PATROL Agents by using a unique tag, and a PATROL Agent can be assigned one or more policies with different precedence.

If you did not add the Central Monitoring Administration tag to your PATROL Agents during the installation, you must manually assign the tag after you have configured the policy. For details see Adding Central Monitoring Administration tags.

Managing policies

From the navigation pane on the left side of the BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration window, click Policies > Monitoring > All to see all the monitoring policies that are defined in Central Monitoring Administration. If your system recognizes more than one tenant, you can view lists of policies that are filtered by tenant or global policies that apply to all tenants.

On any policy view, you can perform the following actions:

  • Sort policies by clicking column headings
  • Search for text that appears in any of the columns
  • If your system recognizes more than one tenant, search for policies by tenant
  • Create or edit policies
  • Enable or disable policies
  • Delete policies

Creating or editing policies

A policy is applied when the BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration receives a request from the BMC PATROL Agents that match the agent selection properties in the policy. When you update a policy, all the changes are automatically pushed to the BMC PATROL Agents on which the policy was applied.

The high-level steps to create or edit a monitoring policy are listed as follows:

  1. Define general policy details.
  2. Selecting an agent
  3. Perform one or more of the following actions:

Enabling or disabling policies

Enable or disable policies for maintenance and troubleshooting. When a policy is disabled, the policy and its associations remain intact, but the policy configuration is not applied until the policy is enabled again.

To enable or disable a monitoring policy,

  1. In the navigation pane of Central Monitoring Administration, click the Policies drawer and select a policy view.
  2. Select one or more policies and click Enable or Disable.

Warning

Deleting a policy deletes all monitor instances and most settings configured through the policy. Devices remain in the User Groups to which they have been added.

Deleting policies

To delete a monitoring policy,

  1. In the navigation pane of Central Monitoring Administration, click the Policies drawer and select a policy view.
  2. Select one or more policies and click Delete .
  3. To confirm deletion, click Yes.
