Monitoring and managing clusters
The monitoring and management capabilities of PATROL for Microsoft Exchange Servers in a clustered environment depend on your configuration type.
PATROL for Microsoft Exchange Servers monitors and manages
- Exchange cluster resource group (Exchange virtual server)
- Exchange cluster resource group status
- Cluster resource status within the Exchange cluster resource group
You can perform the following administrative tasks on cluster resources:
- Fail the cluster resource over to another node
- Take the cluster resource offline or bring it online
- Move the cluster resource to another group
You can also perform the following administrative tasks on the Exchange cluster resource group or Exchange cluster virtual server:
- Start and stop the cluster
- Move the cluster to another node
- View the cluster properties

Starting and stopping a cluster
You can start and stop a cluster resource from the PATROL console.
To Start a Cluster
Perform the following steps to start a cluster:
- Access the ExchangeVirtualServer or resourceGroupName application class menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Select the Admin > Bring Online menu command.
To Stop a Cluster
Perform the following steps to start a cluster:
- Access the appropriate ExchangeVirtualServer or resourceGroupName application class instance menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Select the Admin > Take Offline menu command.
Displaying cluster status
Perform the following steps for displaying status of cluster:
- Access the appropriate ExchangeVirtualServer or resourceGroupName application class instance menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Choose the Admin > View Properties menu command.
Moving a cluster group
Perform the following steps to move a cluster group:
- Access the appropriate ExchangeVirtualServer or resourceGroupName application class instance menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Choose the Admin > Move Group menu command to move the cluster group.
- Click OK to close the confirmation message dialog box.
Moving a cluster resource to another group
Perform the following steps to move a cluster resource to another group
- Access the appropriate instanceNamesOfResourcesBeneathResourceGroup application class instance menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Choose the Admin > Change Group menu command.
Failing over a cluster resource
From the PATROL console, you can manually fail over an Exchange cluster resource to another node.
- Access the appropriate instanceNamesOfResourcesBeneathResourceGroup application class instance menu as described in Accessing-KM-Menu-Commands.
- Choose the Admin > Initiate Failure menu command.
