This topic describes some of the features present in the the Infrastructure Management architecture in which the BMC PATROL Agent is an integral component within Infrastructure Management.

Advantages of the BMC PATROL and Infrastructure Management integration architecture

The Infrastructure Management architecture offers the following benefits:

  • It reduces the number of components involved in the flow of data between the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and BMC PATROL Agent and thus simplifies the data flow. The BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Integration Service replaces the earlier intermediate components and is stateless; that is, it offers a seamless switchover from one Integration Service to another in case of a failover, thus causing no impact on the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

  • It ensures that the data between the Infrastructure Management and the BMC PATROL Agent is in synch by streaming data and events to the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server and providing near real-time information about application classes and instances (along with data and events) available in the BMC PATROL Agent.

  • It offers a reduction in the footprint of the Integration Service (on both the memory and CPU).
  • It provides for a significant reduction in the failover time of the Integration Service.
  • It consolidates event and data collection transport over a single wire between the BMC PATROL Agent and the Integration Service; that is, you need to use only a single port opened in your firewall.
  • The architecture is simplified and the following components have been removed from the Integration Service:
    • pproxy - process that hosted the PATROL integration for the Integration Service
    • pproxcli (proxy CLI) - CLI used to configure and get information from the proxy process to the PATROL Adapter
    • SAdapter - internal adapter owned by pproxy that the PATROL Agents connected to

These components are replaced by a Java Native Interface (JNI) which simplifies the communication between the Integration Service and the BMC PATROL Agent(s).
