Enabling and disabling adapters

You must enable adapters on a peer on the grid, so that workflows and processes can use the adapters.

The following video (8:23) demonstrates how to add an adapter to a BMC Atrium Orchestrator grid and how to use Grid Manager to configure the adapter and enable the adapter on a peer in the grid.

To enable adapters on a peer

  1. In the Grid Manager application, select the Manage tab, and then select the Peers tab.
  2. Select the peer where you want to enable the adapter; then click the Edit selected Peer icon.
  3. In the New Adapters section of the Current Operation: Edit a Peer Configuration window, click Enable.
  4. Select the adapters that you want to enable, and then click OK.
  5. To close the Current Operation: Edit a Peer Configuration window, click OK.

To ensure that enabled (or activated) adapters are running (not in fault state), check the Status page.

To disable adapters on a peer

  1. In the Grid Manager application, select the Manage tab, and then select the Peers tab.
  2. Select the peer where you want to disable the adapter; then click the Edit selected Peer icon.
  3. In the Adapters section of the Current Operation: Edit a Peer Configuration window, click Disable.
  4. Select the adapters that you want to disable, and then click OK.
  5. To close the Current Operation: Edit a Peer Configuration window, click OK.

Note

When a process makes an adapter request, the adapter request might specify the location of the peer that will handle the request. For the process to execute successfully, the adapter must be enabled on that peer; therefore, you might need to enable the adapter on multiple peers in the grid.

The following table provides details about how adapters should be enabled based on the value for the peer location in the adapter request.

Peer location

Description

Enable the adapter on

any

The adapter request can be serviced by any peer in the grid.

At least one peer on the grid

this

The adapter must be located on the same peer as the calling process.

The configuration distribution peer (CDP) and all activity peers (APs) on the grid

best

The grid will determine the best peer to service the request, based on health metrics for each peer.

At least one peer on the grid

peer

You specify the exact peer to service the adapter request.
